I think what motivated that was him being a misanthrope as a result of his own self-hatred (which, funnily enough, is in his mind a leftist trait ). Wanting to get away from people elevated the value of nature. Tech was seen as a threat to nature. And of course nature is more virtuous than man, so he rationalized being a murderer.

You asked me if he ever specifically called himself right wing. No. What I am saying is that his values and his violent disdain for leftism place him on the right. At the very last he's nowhere near the left.
