LOL, I was wondering why I was tagged, and it turns out that you guys are actually wasting your time talking to JvS?

Just ignore that utter waste of oxygen, there are far better things in the world to discuss, and far more sane posters to discuss them with :)

@waiguoren. This is what you were going for, no? This is a typical post from him, too. Never discusses issues (which he's generally unable to follow).

That's a strange thing to ask somone to prove.
I would have thought the majority of people in developed nations were getting all their books electronically these days?
It's so much easier, and at least around here all the bookstores have been closing.

I still read a lot on paper, though. A lot of what you look for is practically free used on Amazon, and actual books are easier to share and to have shared with you. And I like going to the bookstore and supporting the local business. Also, I feel weird about reading from a device in public. But the Kindle has advantages, too (immediate delivery and being able to read in the dark are the biggest).

I prefer reading books. I like to physically highlight stuff, use book marks, etc.

I’m old.

I'm with you overall, though the Kindle has some advantages, one of which is it saves so much physical space. New books can stack up on a table or desk pretty quickly. I'm slowly moving toward keeping nice book editions of better literature or something I'm likely to reread. Books I'm more likely to read quickly and leave behind I read on a device.

His response to your insults seems on par with your own comments, which were entirely personal rather than issues based. Also, you seem unfamiliar with his threads. Contrary to your claims, they have a reputation for being informative, especially on slightly more specialized topics like Canadian political developments.

Etsy and Planet Fitness deliver big on earnings. Goin for a swim.

Things might be significantly different in the US.
Over here all my local stores have closed. About the only physical books I buy these days are larger format reference books. The number of books I borrow or lend is so small in comparison to overall reading that it's not a consideration.
Also, there are no Australian Amazon "fulfillment centres" away from the east coast (yet), so the difference in time frame is huge.
I switched to using a smart phone sized ereader back when I was working a job where I usually took lunch by myself at one of two asian food courts. Being able to read single handed while eating with chopsticks made all the difference.

That's too bad, I hate reading e books over actual paper. I found a site that has a shitload of pro wrestling books available for free in PDF (including Gary Hart's book that costs hundreds of dollars, PM me if interested) but I'd still rather buy them in paperback.
E books in college rustled the shit out of me too.

My comments were that he makes the kinds of posts that he made. And I know he copies-and-pastes news stories. That aspect of his posting can literally be done by a bot. On the rare occasions when he writes in his own words, he's uniformly terrible--capable of nothing more than insulting people he regards as being in a different tribe.

Then why don't you put him on your 70+ long ignore list?

Lots of bookstores everywhere I've lived, still (3 different countries). Australians are just uncultured kangaroo herders.

Their problem is : THERE IS NO "something else"!!

IMPEACHMENT was their go-to attack weapon to try and remove him from office.

With the Senate now being in ABSOLUTE Republican control with more seats added, that avenue is closed.

There is nothing else, short of Trump committing actual Murder or Rape, that would lead to Trump getting removed from Office.

And before someone chimes in and says "Oh! But Trump can be prosecuted for 'whatever' once he leaves office", I'm going to go out on a limb and say that :

1.) Trump gets re-elected in 2020

2.) If he doesn't, nothing will happen to him 'cause Democrats would've gotten what they wanted.

Either way, NOTHING is going to happen to Trump.

Yes, I mean they'll have to think of something else to do with their time than try to get Trump removed from office.

Most of my reading consists of Civil War era research and history, so I save that stuff anyway. I just like the feel of a book In my hand and flipping pages. Plus, I like having decorative books. I’ve started a collection.

I have read a few books on line, but I just don’t seem to retain the information as well.

Again, I’m old and I’m used to books. The younger folks I’m sure see books as antiquated and a waste of space.

Most of them closed here in 2011.
The three biggest bookstore chains were owned by the same group and they went under.
There's still independent and specialist bookstores, but the corner bookstore and bookstores in shopping centres all seem to be gone.

Seems like the situation in the US isn't as bad, but it's heading the same way.
Same stories all over the place.
Anything which is impacted by the tyranny of distance will be hit hard in Australia.

I think a lot of them will continue to close, but at least in major city centers there will continue to be enough of a business case to have a few good ones for a very long time.

I don't actually get the ''buy everything online'' craze. For some things, sure, things for which it probably doesn't make sense to have a local store. For example, my lifting gear was the most recent thing that I bought online, and the first thing that I bought online in about 3 years. I very much like the immediacy of purchasing something in the store, and I hate the cardboard that piles up from the ol' lady's internet purchases.

It's funny though that amazon might simultaneously be killing the bookstore while saving the paper industry.

I use my Kindle app on my phone for almost all my reading. I like to keep certain kinds of books in physical form, like cookbooks or anything where I might see myself going back and forth between pages and chapters often rather than reading something with a narrative. That's still a big advantage for paper books over digital books.
