You aren't familiar with paper used as an adjective as in "paper" champ?

Dana recently said most people consider Jones the goat, so is he a goat on paper, but not really?

I'd just like your own definition of what it means because most of the ongoing arguments in the Heavies are people just arguing terms they don't even entirely agree on the meaning or how to arrive at the meaning (P4P, GOAT, Over/underrated, etc). I want to know what you think a paper GOAT mean to you. Furthermore, add in what GOAT means to you if you could.

A "paper champ" is someone who has the official designation but isn't regarded as having legitimacy on a deeper level. GOAT status is unofficial so there can't be a conflict.

Jones is easily the best fighter in MMA history, FWIW.

I'm pretty sure he's just referring to his doping violations disqualifying him from being legit.

In a world where some Pride vets are considered the GOAT, despite them having carte blanche to roid up, and less than stellar records stateside where they were tested, I think the point is moot.

Well my point is to actually here his explanation than just jump on where I assume he is going. That can often be a waste of time if you get it wrong. That's why I don't bite usually on broader open statements that could mean a few things.

Forgot this card was this weekend. That all happened quick. Anyone looking forward to these matchups?

Meh. Co-main is pretty interesting but it's kind of late for both guys.

Honestly not really. Weidman-Jacare should have happened a couple years ago (they both look like they could fall over dead at any moment now), and Cormier-Lewis is uninteresting (so uninteresting I confused Lewis with Brunson and ninja edited).

Brunson vs. Adesanya is on there too. I'm pretty interested in that. I actually still enjoy the MW picture. Rockhold, Weidman, Romero, and Jacare can all fight each other a few more times and I'd watch

The MW fighting style meta seems like it has turned slow and plodding, or maybe the fighters are all wearing out. It's like watching old men in a nursing home beating each other with lead pipes. All of those guys are over the hill, and I don't think Whittaker can take much more punishment before he joins them.

Its a mediocre card but I'm a big DC fan and don't mind contributing to his ppv buy cut

I usually stay out of the conversation, but I think there are very narrow areas where cultural appropriation is a thing: I'd say about 15% of the things brought up. People wearing sombreros and mustaches, Native headdresses, doing mocking ebonic accents, dressing up in Saudi ghutrahs, etc. But there has to be some wanton disregard for the meaning of the cultural artifact or intentional flippancy or mockery of it.
Yeah that's how I feel. I think more often than not its invoked when it shouldn't be but there are cases where I think the people criticizing cultural appropriation have a point. Of course people have the right to culturally appropriate but then don't be surprised when the people from that culture think you come off like an ass.

It's funny because a part of me still thinks of all the top guys in the division as prospects. I think much more than the elite in other divisions, you could see their success coming from far away. Of course Romero and Jacare were old prospects from the beginning, and it was like 8 years ago when people argued about whether Weidman or Rockhold was the best prospect in the sport (with Whittaker not far behind).

Cheeeeeeeeeater cheater cheaterrrrr

It reflects badly on him as a person, and I don't root for the guy. But he is the best fighter we've seen in MMA.

Horrible human being. Valid questions of if he'd be this good without the chemical assistance

But on a purely fighter locked in a cage perspective, definitely the best
