Could they prove the debt was for school necessitiies and not just I’m in school, everything is covered but I still want to have fun so I’m charging up try credit cards?
Sure. Their statements would indicate if it was used for tuition, fees, books, rent, etc.

Then I think they should be able to add to their student loans to pay off the cards, if there is a decided maximum in forgiveness I guess they’d have to pick what to pay off first, and I hope they’d know to pay off the one with the highest interest.

I know I'm late to the student loan forgiveness debate but I'll throw in my two cents anyway.

From my perspective I've always thought that forgiving interest accrued on student loans rather than the entirety of loans themselves might be a better compromise. A lot of people are against student loan forgiveness because it goes against their sense of fairness so under this plan at least students are made to pay back every cent they borrowed while still getting relief. Plus it'd be a lot cheaper. That said I doubt the GOP would agree to even that with how obstructionist they've been.

This reminds me of a joke that Žižek tells, about the slovenian farmer who is visited by a genie who tells him that ''I will grant you anything, but whatever you ask for, I will give twice as much to your neighbour.'' So the slovenian farmer says ''well okay, take one of my eyes.''

Question

A hypothetical. If for some reason Joe Biden stepped down or died or was removed for whatever reason BEFORE the EC vote would that automatically mean Kamala would become the projected POTUS. Or does the rule only kick in after the official EC vote? Is it possible that the Democratic party (or whoever) could find someone to replace Joe other than Kamala?
It definitely kicks in no later than after the EC vote, but what is not explicitly stated is a definition of "president-elect." If Biden is the president-elect, then Harris assumes the role (I take it from your hypothetical that you're already assuming this). If he's not the president-elect, then things could get weird.

Armchair me says: It would be hard to argue that it would be an issue after votes are certified by the states. California certifies latest, on December 11th, while the last swing states with potential to try to overturn things by fuckery - Nevada and Wisconsin - are certified December 1st. So if Biden makes it to December 1st in any reasonable scenario (December 8th is the actual deadline for resolving election disputes), I don't think it could go another way, though Republicans would obviously try to swindle the election in that case anyway.

If he somehow dies before the end of the month, then there is way more room for maneuvering.

Technically, election day has fuckall to do with the result of the election. It informs the Electoral College, who then vote for the president and VP, which is then certified by Congress.

So if the candidate were to die:

-After Election Day, but before Electoral College votes: The DNC would need to select a new candidate (almost certainly the VP), who would be furnished to EC voters. Would almost certainly be the VP because it establishes continuity of the winning ticket and observes normal succession policies. New VP would be chosen.

-After EC vote, but before certification: Congress would decide if the EC vote counted. If they did, 20th amendment kicks in and VP is sworn in as president. Normal succession rules apply.

-After congressional certification: 20th amendment kicks in, normal succession rules apply.

Keep in mind, there are some assumptions being made here as this has never happened before. Take with as much salt as needed.

I would answer, then what will you give him when he comes to take your two eyes if you have only one left?
