I should've said fed/private institutions instead of college earlier, then this would make more sense.Yes, when you forgive a loan, you don't get paid back the rest of what you're owed.
If the general number of $1.5 trillion dollars in total student loan debt in the US is anywhere close to being accurate, then I don't see how it's possible for a total forgiveness situation without the feds and private institutions taking a catastrophic hit.
