I like more weight classes. I'd go with something like 125, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185, 205, 235.

My only concern is that could possibly increase the amount of double champs and we would see titles defended way less than current rate; not to mention an increase in the clusterfuck of interim title fights.

Ideal we want at least 2 undisputed title fights per division per year, no way that would happen with increases double champs

Styles make fights, and Alvarez might be a tougher matchup for Khabib than Conor was. Before the Conor fight I was unsure of Khabib's chin, but he answered that question. So a guy who can scramble/wrestle, land hard combos in transition, and is used to grinding out wins like Alvarez looks pretty good. I'd still favor Khabib of course.
I agree, styles make fights. Alvarez has great feints and has more wrestling experience than Conor. Could make it interesting but doesn't look like Eddie will get a title shot anytime soon. I think the winner of Diaz/Poirier is an easier match up for Khabib.

Good points. I hadn't really considered the title fights angle.

I guess my position is based on the idea that easier weight cuts turn out better fights in general, especially in the money divisions from 155 - 205.

Yeah, I don't like Diaz or Poirier against Khabib at all. Fergie? Hells yes. But then, to the same point, I think Diaz is a really tough matchup for Fergie.

Both Lee and Chiesa v Khabib would also be interesting.

Agree with all of that but Chiesa. I think aside from Max and Rose, Chiesa has shown more improvement than anybody (when he started, he looked like a not-very-talented hardworking amateur), but Khabib would ragdoll and split him open and turn him into a bloody pile of ghosts.

I mean, yes, who am I kidding, probably. But Chiesa at least is a solid grappler and a grinder and a tough dude. Looking down the list of contenders, I don't see much of a resistance for the Eagle.

Agree on Diaz vs Ferguson. I also think Conor could take Ferguson's head off, in fact I think I might favor Conor against him. As crazy as it sounds I'd give Tony a better shot against Khabib than against Conor who I think could exploit Tony's weakness more easily.

Ferguson is easily Khabib's toughest match up in the division, if he can get past Tony then I don't see who could beat Khabib. I'm with @Fawlty on the Chiesa match up, I think Khabib would maul him and not to mention he's moved to WW. Lee is a great fighter but I think Khabib would tap him. He hasn't had to use it much but Khabib has a good guard and I could also see him taking Lee down. Over five rounds I really think Khabib would show us that his grappling is on another level.

Don't want to get ahead of myself here as a Khabib fan. Last guy to defend the LW belt more than once was Benson Henderson and honestly two of his defenses were split decisions that could've went the other way. Haven't really had a dominant champ since BJ really and even he only had three defenses.
