It was. The Hobbit was made into a 77 minute cartoon, which was adequate. This trilogy added some background story taken from the Silmarillion, but even the 2 movies would have been plenty.
The Hobbit was a longish short story. 1 film ought to suffice, says I, having not seen the movies yet, but sympathetic to the Lord of the Rings being a very well done trilogy of movies that did a remarkable job of bringing the books to life, far better than I believed possible when I was younger. But even so, from the business side of things, every single aspect of them has been crafted to cynically and distastefully extract exactly all the money it is possible to obtain. For example, all three reels of the original trilogy were done and in the can before the first one ever went to theatres and they spaced them out a year at a time.

tl;dr
I have mixed feelings about the franchise.

Oh yeah, people think I'm serious when joking all the time. I've never wanted to go to a social setting this badly. I'm just sitting here enjoying the images in my head.
Interesting. I am much worse than average when it comes to being able to tell when someone is joking--I've known many people with whom I could never period, but strangely, here in the lounge and the WR in general, I have a far far greater success rate (you included/in particular) although it's obviously not 100% for anyone.

How could you like 5? Isn’t that the one where the ending isn’t even a boxing match but just him punching the Don King type character in the face? I’d say 1,2,4

He fights Tommy Morrison in a street fight at the end. “Get up you son of a bitch, because Mickey loves ya.”

This Martinez v Mayes fight is making me sick, so much jiggling.

Dividing up the Hobbit movies completely ruined them.

Just saw on the Facebook that Jason Sudekis and Olivia Wilde got divorced.

So ends one of history's great underdog stories.

They had a 7 year engagement, but never got married. They have two children.

Yeah, I was news googling earlier.
