Yeah, but if everything was cyclical, then we'd all return to being zygotes before dying, right?

But seriously, the term "democracy" is unbelievably broad but if we look at it as a continuum, it has certainly gone (very slowly) in one direction for, roughly, the past 300-400 years.

Starting with the English revolutions in the 1600s, the general public has gained power and the state has had its power limited. So no, the US in the late 1700s wasn't a democracy compared to today's government, but it was certainly FAR more democratic than governments in the 17th, 16th, 15th etc. centuries.

And sure, things COULD turn around, nothing's automatic, but I don't think it's happening anytime soon. We have certain bumps in the road (like Trump's authoritarian tendencies, for example) but they're just that, bumps. It's actually actually pretty telling that we freak out this much over what Trump's doing.

Do you seriously think the State's power has been limited by democracy?

WHERES my fucking second stimulus check?!
I rolled it up and snorted some powdered sugar with it, and then everything went dark for a few hours. It's definitely somewhere inside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park though. Good luck, hope that narrows down the search.

Yeah I don't know who the fuck made white women think they're the saviors of minorites lmao.

Like bro. I figured being against no knock warrants would be a pretty bipartisan thing.

Also.

Being against no knock warrants is bipartisan. It should have never happened. But when the no knock warrant was authorized by law and the other party shoots first, how can you convict someone of murder for returning fire?

I haven’t read the report, but I’ve served hundreds of high risk felony warrants. In any event we had to breach a door, as was done in this case, we immediately are yelling “POLICE! POLICE!” Home invaders in the middle of the night don’t usually break the door off the hinges with a loud thud. But we never do no knock warrants out here.

I heard they knocked, which woke them up.

But yeah, yelling "police" or even "we have a warrant" after kicking my door in? I'm not going to walk out with my hands up and assume the people who kicked my door in are cops. I'm going to assume someone is hoping I'm dumb enough to hear "police we have a warrant".

No knock warrants, and even warrants served late at night are a fucking joke.

I agree. I’ve never done a no knock or a late night warrant service. It’s basically not done out here.

In your scenario you look to see what you’re shooting at before you fired? Because this guy didn’t he just opened fire and of course the police returned fire.

Say you’re a cop and it’s your job to follow the orders of your superiors and the judge and execute this warrant. You go to do it and get shot at. You wouldn’t return fire? You think it’s murder to return fire on someone shooting at you?

Exactly. 15 minutes from his home (closer than most people's commute), and he worked in Kenosha.
It's like my area. You can live in Cincinnati but be in northern Kentucky or southeast Indiana in a few minutes.
Are you one of those guys who root for Ohio State in football but Kentucky in basketball?

In the middle of the night when it is not even remotely plausible that I could see the people entering my hallway were cops? Yeah. One party is protecting their property/living space. The other is intruding.

When it comes down to basic human instinct, only one party was in the wrong. Regardless of warrants or "lawful orders".

Someone bangs on my door and then kicks it down yelling "police" in the middle of the night, I'm not expecting good intentions. Sure as fuck not walking down the stairs with my hands up.

Returning fire when you’ve been shot at isn’t basic human instinct? That’s the wrong instinct? You don’t believe that.

@BEER I’d like to add that shooting when you can’t see the intruders is a terrible idea. They then know your location and the chance that you’ve fatally hit one is very slim.
