I'm waiting until September to buy a motorcycle. Will probably be able to pick up a dirt cheap VRod once the Sturgis community starts dropping like flies.

I thought all used Harleys were going fairly cheap these days, with the huge glut of owners reaching the age were they don't even pretend they ride.
One of the reasons HD is giving up, sacking hundreds of workers and cutting their model lines by about a third.

Yeah but imagine the price plummet once the COVID fire sale kicks off?

I remember when HD closed Buell during the GFC, the 1125R/CR was actually being sold new for less than they cost used now. I considered one, but was after a daily rider, they were having a few issues (faulty stators, instruments and leaking clutch covers) and already had wait times of over a month for parts.
Unlikely to happen with the discontinued models under the current CEO though. He seems to think HDs are Veblen goods, and has committed to no discounts (also has probably axed the Bronx, which was the closest thing to a bike with a HD badge I might actually want to ride since the XR1200/X).

Buell's reputation for reliability issues turned me off of buying one for pennies a few years back. Even as cheap as it was (ran great, too), I knew I was one ounce of bad luck away from having a potato and spending twice as much just to fix it.

I feel bad for how hard this made me laugh.

Yeah, the local dealer is still trying to sell their 2014 EBR floor stock. He'll be lucky to get half that.

Lol .... literally

It's pay no more than 500 for that insane piece of shit.

How has the pandemic effected your prices? Used prices have actually gone up here, presumably because there's very few private sales going on.

I haven't seriously looked at bikes in quite a while. I'd imagine they've gone up for the same reasons, especially without having a population that might be more likely to sell their bikes due to unemployment.

Yeah, I think more people are buying used than new now due to the financial hardships, and less people are selling, so there's been some pretty significant price increases. I assume it'd be similar for cars, although I don't pay any real attention.

I checked out a 91 Miata, and the guy's firm selling price was 2,900. Even with the "upgrades" (a shitty paintjob and ugly cheap rims), that car isn't worth a hair more than 1,500 bucks.

I mean, it's not unusual for private sellers to overestimate the worth of their cars or even expecting potential buyers to be willing to pay more for "upgrades", but 2,900?

Big yikes.

Hah. You guys pay peanuts for vehicles. Yeah, I've seen a lot of ridiculous prices. To the point where I'm not sure if they just realised it's a sellers' market and are trying to see how much they can get, or if the wife just told them they had to sell, so they advertised it for some ludicrous amount that would get no interest.

Never see Indians here on the road, although I've been to the dealer. The FTR1200S is actually a bike I could own. Still a little too much form over function for my liking, but at least Indian doesn't try to pretend that a lack of technological improvements is some sort of virtue.

Jesus Christ.

I could be billionaire-who-doesn't-know-how-much-groceries-cost rich and I wouldn't pay that for a 30 year old Miata
