Big fan of the opinion in the tweet. I remember in 2007 when I had a college professor talk about how powerful a social tool he believed the new wave of political satire to be in fighting ignorance. Even as a college freshman, I strongly disagreed.

I'm not saying guns are the best form of resistence to that kind of tyranny, it wasn't an armed insurgency that ended Jim Crow after all. But on an individual level having a gun can mean the difference between being tried by 12 or buried by 6.

Man, we're really not seeing eye-to-eye. You really think Taylor's bf survived BECAUSE he shot at the cops? No-knock raids are shit but the police don't actually break into your house and literally shoot everything that moves. They break in with itchy fingers, shout some orders, and then start shooting at the slightest sign of resistance or non-compliance. Taylor died because her bf started shooting at the cops and the fired back. He just got lucky he didn't get hit.

And you're right that Jim Crow wasn't ended by fear of armed citizens killing too many cops, but by protesting, education, demonstrations, etc. The current BLM movement is likely going to create reform but not because citizens are shooting it out with the cops but because of the mass demonstrations that have taken place.

Guns to fight for freedom are needed in very precarious democracies and civil war situations. So yeah, it's great that the Kurds have arms, same with any other group that was fighting ISIS when it started spreading. But in Western democracies, rights are won on the streets, classrooms, congress and so on.

Oregon is a bit wild in some ways.

There's a culture clash because it was always a logging state (so was Washington), and Portland attracted money and business because it's a solid port.

The logging population ranged from nazi to anarchist, and you had tons of people who are broadly speaking gun-toting, pothead, redneck liberals.

And then an infusion of Californians whose values clashed with the more right-wing elements. Still not totally settled.

To be fair I didn't know the details of the case. But some cops do seem shoot anything that moves when they perform a no knock raid, they almost as a rule execute any family pets that they see. And people have defended themselves with guns against such raids and won in court, happened at least twice off the top of my head. As far as I am concerned that's defense against tyranny.

I'm not arguing that an armed insurgency in America is a good idea but I am saying on an individual level guns can help resist tyranny. I agree that rights are won through things like protests but open carry can help with that. Like I said you never see open carry protestors being roughed up by police, that's no accident.

In Western democracies tyranny often doesn't come from the top, it comes from rogue government officials trying to push the boundaries. At that level a gun can make all the difference.

Still avoiding ICU. There are lots of moving parts: heart irregularities, double bacterial pneumonia, and viral Covid inflammation. It's hour-by-hour. Heart is under control for now, and pneumonia seems to be improving. Covid inflammation is still a major problem.

Could be anywhere from 3 days to a month, since recovery is so complex. Thanks for asking man.

Glad to hear still not needing ICU. Yeah, that inflammatory bodily response to the viral infection is a bitch. Glad the regular hospital unit is able to keep things under control. That’s a great sign to not be needing the intensive teams.
