Idk, I've seen some takes by professional fiction writers on what D&D should have done, including ones on the HBO payroll who were straight up ignored, and it looks like D&D really got high on their own shit and messed it up.

HBO really should have known better than to green light what D&D put on the table for the final two seasons

So how are you USA folks dealing with Covid in your area? Seems like some states are still spiraling out of control with cases?

Locally (Ontario) is down to under 200 new cases daily. Pretty good considering it was about 1/3 total cases in the country (second to Quebec).

Has he mentioned whether the book while diverge from the ending the show had? I know it’s already pretty different from the show but I’m wondering if the central events are going to change and whether he considered the reception the show got as part of his decision.

GRRM ducked that question like a presidential candidate on a debate stage. Here’s the quote:

“How will it all end? I hear people asking,” he wrote. “The same ending as the show? Different? Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.”

I’m guessing key events like Bran ruling (that was way too out of left field for show writers to decide on) and Dany going mad and Jon having to kill her happen. But those things could have been perfectly fine if not so rushed. And GRRM will have two books to cover that not 13 episodes.

White Walkers better get a boat load more explanation and not end with a single battle like that. The white walker battle felt like the generic Hollywood BS so I’m guessing GRRM’s is different. The Dany slaughter and Bran ends up ruling just seemed poorly executed versions of what GRRM told the show writers.
