War Room Lounge v132: Jack used rhetoric. It’s not very effective...

It's almost as long and boring as the Dark Knight, if you can imagine. Also like the Dark Knight, it's some rightist propaganda.

I liked The Dark Knight.

I thought the Dark Knight Returns was kind of meh though.

Batman Begins was the best of the trilogy imo.

Speaking of long movies one of these days I'm going to have watch the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven. I liked the theatrical release but everyone on r/movies says the Directors cut is much better but it's over 3 hours.

The Irishman was pretty good and Pacino gave the best performance by far.

Pacino has suffered for years by playing himself playing a guy. Will Smith has the same issue.

I'd call it phoning it in but I ultimately don't think that's what it is.

Could there be a limit on how many threads a blatant returning ban white belt can make a day, even if they’re bribing with buying plats?

Wasn’t the rule, at least in regards to Wai, to at least pretend to be someone else for a time to prove good behavior?

Pacino is just lazy. DeNiro and Nicholson are lazy too sometimes. It's not that they are playing themselves playing someone else or any other kind of bizarre crap, they really are just phoning it in. Sometimes a good role comes along or some other form of motivation. But mostly they're on the dinner jacket and dentures theater tour.

Who are we talking about?

I think all WR whites should be on the thinnest of ice in general, but wai was an extraordinary case of someone who flaunted it without coaxing.

Shit-dipped blue jackals are going to shit-dipped blue jackal.

I think Greg is on to something. It's been said that the most magnetic actors like John Candy (and I would add Jeff Bridges, most notably) play themselves. But I think it's also something that iconic actors who aren't singularly charismatic do as well. And Pacino does seem to have developed acting habits that sort of parody his former typecast. Same with Nicholson, but Nicholson is more talented in general imo and is more toward Candy/Bridges on that spectrum.

DeNiro and Will Smith, I don't see so much.

There is a limit on white belts and yellow belts making threads in the WR full stop (they can't), although Plat status does circumvent it.
Return status depends on whether or not a poster was simply banned or banned and told they could come back after a certain time period and with any other conditions.
Still, any poster spamming threads is likely to have most of them dumped/merged/deleted. It's in the rules and guidelines.

It really blows my mind how they start doing that. It's not like they are Nicolas Cage who takes and does any job because he is in money trouble.

You could make a case that Pacino is self-referential, but it's just post-Scent of a Woman-laziness imo. There's no real craft happening there, no dramatic intentionality or anything. I don't see that in Candy or Bridges. Definitely not in DeNiro or Will Smith.

Viva La Revolution

I don’t mind viva, but he’s made about half a dozen new threads each day for the past week and they’re all in his Gotcha style

Interestingly, both Pacino and DeNiro really brought it for Heat. Pacino went to dogshit in Devil's Advocate, but it was so well-written that it didn't matter.

Could some of this be an unfortunate side effect of hitting it big on the Godfather movies and Scarface and it instantly type-casted him and he made his millions and no longer really cared?

De Niro to be fair I haven't seen a TON of his earlier stuff save for Godfather II and like Raging Bull. Most of the stuff I have seen with him was when he was starting to look how Tommy Lee Jones has always looked.

Dude DeNiro was horrible. He could barley fucking move.

The way DeNiro moves in that movie is how Trotsky moves on the regular with robotic and jerky movements. He likely sees DeNiro as moving normally while the rest of the cast are the weird ones.

Clearly you have no choice. If the left hadn't taken Gone With the Wind, you'd know how bad being a nazi is. If only they taught something like that in a class about history.

Look, guys, the germans were just having a really tough time, okay?
