He reveled at the opportunity to get some national headlines just by blaming everything on Trump rather than being more of a Newsom and getting the work done for the state to better enable the hospitals to handle the crisis and that seemed like some self serving politician BS rather than serving the public.
Still too much of a tax and spend Democrat, but C passing grade overall. B+ for Covid handling.
Interestingly, Pritzer seems to have taken a more “right wing” position that unlike Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan around it that have already extended their stay at home orders into mid May or even end of May, he says they’re still gathering data needed to make a decision on extension. I’m wondering if it’s in recognition that a place like Chicago needs to be handled differently than the less dense parts of the state and a statewide general order may not be the best path going forward.
I say right wing in quotes because while all the protesters do look very right wing, it’s definitely not a partisan split where a majority of righties wanting all jobs magically back rolling and crying tyranny to be told to not shove 100+ people in a church building when there’s a global epidemic.

That sounds logical to us today, but that has no real relation to history. It caught in different regions for different reasons, but there are some common ideas that were patched together from existing religion, debated and polished over time. The basic ideas like reciprocal altruism were thousands of years old and known by everybody. More relevant were things like apocalyptic fetishism, a new everlasting blood magic replacing animal sacrifice, the fall of the Temple Cult, the reinvigorating of the passion narrative, plain old luck (one cult will probably survive in the chaos), and what really paid dividends, the inclusive tone set by Paul that eventually separated traditional Jewish sects from newer cultists, resulting in new cultures like the birth of Gnosticism.
And I'd say that at no point was Christianity about independent thought, but salvation was more individualized, and the claim that one's relationship with Jesus was more deeply personal was appealing, though it was basically just a trick to convert people.
