Nope, though I have to admit that despite being zealous right now, most of my parts are a couple generations old now.Yeah PCpartpicker is what I used last time I did my own build

Your buddy is wrong and should be fired by Vince. My understanding from a friend that builds his gaming PCs and does a light amount of streaming on the side for shits'n'giggles is unless it's like your main job it isn't worth buying parts individually unless you have the money to buy top tier stuff right out the gate.

It should not take you anywhere near 30 hours to put together a PC, let alone a substandard one. There are maybe 5 parts requiring more than basic plugging in: PSU, case, MB (most time consuming IMO), CPU+fan. RAM, GPU, storage drive, and peripherals require minimal effort.
Also, he's made one before.
Also, it's sometimes nice to make things.
PCpartpicker
Main problem is it's not great at CPU fan clearance.
He's wrong. You can make a budget gaming pc way less than a storebuilt, too, because you can optimize a lot better. Especially if you're near a microcenter, which has those incredible cpu/MB combos. In 2016 or 2017 I built a coworker a <500 pc with a 1060 and an SSD because of how good their sales were.
He's wrong.
It's nearly always cheaper to buy parts and assemble yourself. Reason being that these prebuilt companies are putting a margin on top, otherwise they'll never make money. SOMETHING is going to be low grade. You'll love your prebuilt until you have to upgrade anything and you realize your power supply is liquid ass in box form and your motherboard is the budget version of the cheap ass line. They'll give you a nice graphics card maybe, but I assure you, you can basically always get more out of doing it yourself.
This is all very well and good, but I learned ages ago that unless you are really up on everything, you can end up with issues that make it not worth the hassle. At least for me.It should always be cheaper to build yourself. Even the largest white box brands can't get enough of a wholesale discount to sell at competitive retail prices and turn a profit.
Pinochet was a bumbling idiot.Every once in a while, you'll hear from a conservative that "we just need a benevolent dictator for a little while."
The exchange that usually follows is something like:
So Tito?
No, I said benevolent.
So...Castro?
No, I said benevolent.
So......Sankara?
Who?
Who is an example of the type of benevolent dictator you want?
Well, power corrupts people.
If you get a conservative who is exceptionally knowledgeable of world history/leaders, you might eventually land on Pinochet.
Were there any Asian men there? The disc golf gods were good this morning. Been putting in some work on technique and it's paying off. How much you wanna bet I can throw a frisbee over them mountains?

Seems to me that, kinda like Greg touched on, it would depend on how capable you are and how valuable your time is.
If you make $60 an hour and spend 30 hours that you could spent on the clock bumbling together a substandard product, it'd likely be more cost effective to buy, no?
I hear Chomsky is a big Pinochet fan.![]()

Franco or Tito
James Burnham echoed this sentiment in a 1975 obituary declaring “Francisco Franco was our century’s most successful ruler.” This was one of two celebratory obituaries the magazine devoted to Franco. The other was written by F.R. Buckley (one of Buckley’s brothers) who sang Franco’s praises as “a Spaniard out of the heroic annals of the nation, a giant. He will be truly mourned by Spain because with all his heart and might and soul, he loved his country, and in the vast context of Spanish history, did well by it.”
