I don't think it's possible to play well enough without a HUD in order to justify not using one, basically. It can be done out of stubbornness or ethics or some other reason, but it will be a leak. The flip side is not enjoying being exploited by people who aren't working as hard as you to read the table, which is sort of what I gather @Andy Capp's objection is implying.

I don't disagree with any of this, especially the bolded. It's all information in the shannon sense, so you should be able to leverage that for +EV, or that's a you problem. I'll only say that it's too easy for me to blame my negative winnings so far on not using a HUD. If a HUD gives me +5BB/100, it's still a waste of money for me to get poker tracker when I'm just calling too much and too light, for example.

I’d be free to login and play now. Fighting with some pirated games steam throws a bitchfest at me about. Do need to see if my current solution sticks once I restart steam and actually use it for Civ multiplayer.
