Nice
I wont bother you to listen to Enter Shikari, they were a fun trance hardcore band that sang songs about aliens and doing coke in club bathrooms when all of a sudden they decided singing about the government to shitty dubstep breakdowns was their new style
Ooof maybe I'll avoid the shit I didn't realize existed haha. That sounds similar to the "evolution" of Bring Me The Horizon, though I never thought they were very good to begin with.
The song:
The song is about Daisy Coleman. She was raped when she was 14, and her friend was raped in the next room over. After being fed alcohol to the point of passing out. After the act, the group of rapists dropped Daisy outside of her house, in freezing temperatures. The prosecutor dropped the felony rape charges and he was convicted of a misdemeanor for neglect or some shit. A bullshit, but all-too-common, occurrence. There was a documentary called Audrey and Daisy about both girls' experiences with sexual assault and how the justice system failed them. The guy who raped Daisy's friend admitted to it, and a third dude admitted to taking video on his phone. Before the police were involved, video of Daisy's rape was spread around her school. Daisy went on to be a very prominent figure in raising awareness about sexual assault. It broke my heart when I saw that she ended up killing herself this year, in August.
The lyrics that fuck me up:
"You made your bed when you were born in your bones
So lay back, sweetheart, in a body you only sometimes own
Lay back upon cold concrete floors and rest your drunken soul
What else could a lady ask for than to be treated like a hole?"
And the real fucking stinger:
"It's irrelevant, her relation to me
No one is innocent if they go free
No one is innocent if they go free!
When we hand raise the beast
And the beast runs wild
We must speak of our own involvement
In the rape of a child!"
To this day, this song makes me cry a little. Even just jamming out the lyrics hit me like a brick.
