Yeah Wilt is an interesting case. My intuition is that you're right, that he would be a top pick but not necessarily dominant. Dunno enough about Ryan's fastball, but we don't have the video to evaluate the arms of people much further in the past than him, so the pitching GOAT topic is impossibly clouded.

Chess has an interesting tool for GOAT debates. Bobby Fischer is remarkable among GOAT candidates for coming way before computers, but playing a very high percentage of top-choice as well as very deeply-calculated computer moves. He's unmatched in this, and the only arguably better player in these terms was world champion in the 1920s(!) because he held such a high standard for longer than Fischer. But, that metric is going to become obsolete in a funny way because everyone trains to play like a computer now. But while it has lasted, it's the best GOAT metric available for any sport, imo.

Even disc golf has a lively GOAT debate. Oof.

Not much footage, but I can easily but Satchel Paige as the GOAT pitcher. Can't say it's true with any confidence, but it's reasonable, IMO. And look at this:



If you're telling me this guy is from a country of 150 million, poor but not third-world poor, into baseball, and he's one of the best hitters they've seen, and he's a free agent, I'm thinking, "damn, probably out of Oakland's price range but it would be nice if we could get him." Any of you interested in a WR hosted chess tournament? Just create an ID on chess.com and let me know it. We are at 12 players and could use 4 more. The turns have to be within 24 hours so it's not a huge commitment but if both you and your opponent are on at the same time, you probably could know the game out in a single sitting.

From what I remember of the chess talk here, so far I'd assume Proko is the best by a little. But there could be a ringer or two. Chess separates skill level kinda dramatically. It's really hard to beat somebody who is better than you.

The 10 minute felt nice. Never rushed for a move, but never felt like I was getting annoyed waiting for opponent
