My wife and I went home and watched Excalibur instead

It released on HBO if you have that. I probably wouldn’t have rented

Joker 2 wasn’t as bad as the reviews. Not great for sure. I think Phillips was horrified with how people loved the bad guy in the original and decided to do everything to correct it in this one. It’s pretty fitting timing actually for the whole CEO murder recently.

Edit: I’ve been made aware of Phillips resume and it doesn’t seem like that guy would be too horrified at his audiences take on the first movie. I do still think the second really was just a reflection on the first movie and deglorifying the villain though. I usually hate when they do sequels for a story that doesn’t need one but for that angle, this one passes.

It was bad in large part due to that angle . Philips tried to ctrl-alt-delete a character arc by having him fall in love with a female who essentially used him when the character hit that arc because society used him? The whole 'is he Arthur or is he the Joker 'ended when he brutally murdered several people; including his mom and an execution on live television.

I mean the entire movie was incredibly flawed, but the message the director was trying to convey was beyond whacky considering the amount he stole from Taxi Driver and King of Comedy to establish that message.

I’d agree they could’ve really completely scrapped the love interest as I think it didn’t really help and almost interfered with the film. The Joker v Authur thing was dumb but I at least chalked that up to him saying they aren’t two separate people, it’s just a broken dude that killed six people and the results didn’t get him what he thought it would

alone, the person he saved condemned him, and someone else with similar violent tendencies killing him at the end. A downward spiral of shit and where this whole CEO murder online culture is glorifying.
