Yup...motivation set aside, the end result in a mass shooting are....deaths.

Are you against any categorizations? I don't know why you're asking me if robbery killing is not a murder or which people don't deserve to be protected. I also didn't try to minimize gang shootings, it's just a different kind of crime with a different kind of approach needed.

I’m obviously not against any categorization. But a mass shooting is a mass shooting just like a murder is a murder. Regardless of who the perpetrators/victims are or the motivation for the shooting. You can (and should) further break it down by motivation but it’s a mass shooting. It can be gangs, terrorism, sociopathy; but it’s a mass shooting when a group of people are all shot in one event.

I think people want to separate these things further and further down so they can blame black people, or white people, or Muslims or whoever. “Well Muslims do the most behaedings, blacks don’t do that.” Whatever bullshit they want. But it distracts from the fact that there’s a problem with violence that crosses all demographic lines. That’s the big picture.

Do you think terror attacks should be listed as “just” murder? How about serial killings?

The only reason I’d separate different types of mass shootings is because the root cause and the solution is different. Same with terror attacks vs “regular” murder.

Yeah they’re both murder and terrorism. Should people killed in a terrorist event not be listed as murder victims? You’re the one trying to exclude certain types of mass shootings form the definition, not me.

You said they shouldn’t be classed as mass shootings if they’re gang related. That’s what I’m saying I don’t agree with. We’ve always broken categories of crime down by motivation whether political, passion, financial, etc. But we don’t say “oh now it’s not a murder. Now it’s not a mass shooting.”
