Come up with ideas in the bet thread. I'm not really sure what there is right now to really bet on. Usually stuff comes up during threads. The election really was the clearest thing to do it for and its over now

A lot of that can become subjective if we don't hammer things down. We could do the unemployment rate or Gdp growth I guess but I'm not sure I have a strong stance on how that will go.
 
I'd like to nominate @Devout Pessimist for least rustled jimmies award. Now you might ask, isn't he always rustled by feminism or SJWs or something? In a way, yes. But the way he handles other posters who shit on him is exemplary. Usually, he likes the post and just agrees with whatever insult they threw at him. At that point what are you to do? Keep insulting him? Then you look like a real asshole.

He's an expert at avoiding flame wars himself by just lettings things slide while also stirring the pot on certain topics like feminism. Its a top tier skill and mind set.

I also think the guy gets too much shit based on his personal life instead of the arguments he puts forth.

To be fair, if you constantly put stuff out about it, posters are going to use it. It's not a great thing but it shouldn't be surprising either. Also, in social arguments, especially on race, a lot of posters elect to not say their race (or possibly lie about theirs) because of how it affects the argument.

I'm the most humble poster here (adjusting for awesomeness). But I wasn't suggesting a lack of humility on your part. Manners, maybe. I was more saying I wouldn't do it than that you shouldn't, actually.

I agree that divulging personal info on chat boards isn't a good idea. Especially one based on adversarial topics like the WR. I just think people use his background to discredit his arguments more than warranted. He's the ad hominem lodestone around here.

I do not mind people shitting on me. It bothered me greatly when someone threatened to contact my wife and harass her. It turns out that the poster was drunk and not being serious, but that incident really rustled me. I don't mind being mocked, but leave my wife out of it.

It definitely is a good argument from the other side to use. Character assassination does nothing to combat or defend the idea in the topic.

That kind of bullshit gets boards shut down. Believe me, anyone who does that kind of shit is a complete pussy. If I catch wind of it, that poster will be put down like a rabid dog.

@Limbo Pete , would it be hard to do a tally for just best poster and best TS? I don't see the need for making multiple threads when it's at 800 and I'd have to click on each individual post. You also could include up to seven options max for each one instead of just two. I think worst poster, etc is just going to make people bitter

Edit- I guess you could do best new poster as well even if it isn't in the op. Most people new to list it

I was peering a bit deeper than manners, since that's a relatively vague term. If you think there's a more specific line of thinking than humility, as to what is at the root of the offense, feel free to share.
