I think me and Petes beef is crowding out the other less epic beefs. Just look at only the last three posts in this thread for proof

The intellectual chessgame going on between us all this time finally comes to light for the plebs to see.
You are the Moriarty to my Captain Picard.

It is truly epic and everyone in here is too stupid to see it. I would say the even more epic beef than you/ me is us against all these cans but do you really call something like rabbit vs a garbage disposal a beef?

Thumbs up their asses

I didn't realize so many people didn't like each other

I don't know how personal it all is. Lots of immature people just really hate anyone who they identify as being part of the other tribe (whatever it is--there's one troll that hates me because I didn't think as highly of Frank Mir's skills as he does), and the more intelligent and articulate they are, the more they hate them. It's kind of an honor to be singled out by those types.

My knowledge base is solid. I beat most all other residents in the country on annual in-service exams, even as a junior resident. There's no way to quantify how good you are after you finish residency, so it just doesn't seem like anything to brag about. I could say I was always top 1%, and since it seems most doctors lose knowledge after residency while I continue to read and get better, I'm likely still right there on top. But really in the real world, it hardly seems to matter. You can be the dumbest fucktard but act friendly, empathize, have good bed side manners, and they will think you are the best doctor in the world. I saw it all through my training. But for me, I stay up to date and practice evidence based medicine. Patients like me, and I give them good care. And more importantly, I make decent cash. That's what's important to me.
What's important to you is expressing those sorts of (ungodly boring) things, and having people believe you. I bet you try to outsmart people who are recovering from hip surgery.

If we do the sherdog debate series threads, one definitely has to be putting that Mir discussion to rest. I feel like that's been going on for two years.

What's odd is as much as I hate the heavies, I get the posters who just draw simple lines of people who are fans or their favorite fights and those who aren't. It's stupid but in the end, it's just a sport to enjoy watching. For politics, it makes zero sense to fall into that groupthink type mentality cause the consequences actually matter. People treat politics far too much like sports fans

It gets kind of Anung-ed up, though. Like, "you believe X," "no I don't." Not real debates. One of the trolls said he had Mir ranked as the No. 2 HW of all time.

I don't even get it in the HWs. I've never been one to really root for or against particular fighters. Like, I think Jones is the GOAT by a mile, and I love watching him fight, but I'd be excited to see someone beat him (his fight with Gus was one of my favorite just because someone was hanging with him). And Pettis has been one of my favorites, and I've wanted to see him turn it around, but I wasn't down when he lost (had a big bet on Holloway so maybe that's different, but even the Barboza fight didn't bum me out). I don't really root against anyone either.

And, yeah, I've noticed that one reason it's so hard to get good discussions here lately is that a lot of new posters don't really care about being right--they're just arguing to express group loyalty.

Oh yeah and fucking LOL at whomever that was that had to be in up the frank mir JVS thing, I think that is 2 years in a row.

I notice I don't really see myself as a fan of any fighter in the sense I'm upset if they lose. The last fighter I would say I was truly a fan of was hendo and I was actually perfectly okay with how the Bisping fight went. It just is odd to throw yourself behind a fighter and blindly defend whatever they do and not acknowledge they are human.

What's kept me watching probably since the beginning is the larger picture of the divisions/ title pictures and earlier on the different promotions. I would say I'm a fan of the sport more than a fan of any specific fighter. That's probably true for most people here though

And what's weird is that people who do see themselves as defenders of a particular fighter can't fathom other people not viewing things that way--just like hacks here can't imagine anyone else actually caring about facts and being honest.

In The Name Of was who I was thinking of that had Mir No. 2 all-time (!) at HW. Kone is super creepy too, though.

Yea. It an odd thing and I do see it in politics whenever I see people irl try to talk. I usually avoid politics entirely irl because of the way people are immediately defensive or emotional about it. Most people just aren't in the right frame of mind for any good to come from it. I only will argue with my dad and it's cause I know he doesn't get angry at it. He's always been good at keeping a cool head in any room

Well, I bet you are not a Doctor. How about that?
