“Amy Klobuchar Attacks Buttigieg With the Power of One Thousand Karens”

Yeah, it's just a case of, like Modi, me not being familiar enough with him to be comfortable discussing him and giving off the impression that I know more than I do.
I think in the West Erdogan gets scrutinized more so than other authoritarian leaders because he embraces his identity as a Muslim the way someone like Morsi is scrutinized more than Sisi despite the latter clearly being a far more brutal authoritarian. And Erdogan is IMO not really worse than the Turkish military elite that ruled the country before him, really there's a strong argument that he's better given the positive economic and democratic reforms he made early on. And there's the fact that the brutality of the secular military elite, like their disappearances of thousands of young Kurds in the 90s, tends to get overlooked just as it is elsewhere in the Muslim world.

And not only that but people exaggerate how much of an Islamist he is. He uses Islamic identity politics to win elections but its not like he's trying to bring Sharia law to the country, the most Islamic changes he made was lift bans of the hijab in certain public spaces. The fact that those bans existed in the first place is ridiculous, you had more freedom to wear hijab in America than in Turkey before Erdogan. He also uses pan-Islamism in his foreign policy to build relations with the Muslim countries in the region but he's far more of a Turkish nationalist than he gets credit for.

However he does deserve a lot of the criticism, especially since the coup attempt though he first showed his authoritarian colors with the Gezi park protests. After the coup the country really got behind him, even some of his critics supported him as they wanted to put the history of coups behind them. It was funny at the time reading social media comments by Westerners supporting the coup while actual Turkish people condemned it. But instead of using that moment to unite the country he used it as a pretext to crackdown on dissent like a true autocrat. I very much believe that the Gulen movement he blames the coup on does have power in the country but whatever truth there is to that CT its almost certainly exaggerated as a pretext to crush legitimate criticism and dissent. I wish he died in 2012 a hero than live long enough to become the villain but oh well.
Modi is a piece of shit demagogue.

I initially had a positive impression of him since under him there was a lot of privatization and India's economy improved very much.

I heard he was a demagogue but it was usually filtered through al-Jazeera videos and articles, which I dismissed as a bunch of pissed off Muslims that a Nationalist Hindu was in power.

But then it became clear he very much is a Hindu Nationalist who refused to condemn "Cow vigilantes" who were killing Muslims for eating beef, and basically stripped many Muslims of citizenship near the Bangladeshi border. People thought Trump was bad because he wouldn't apologize for simply being endorsed by white nationalists, but Modi refused to condemn killings.

Besides being a demagogue who routinely sacrifices Muslims for political gain, he also pushed for that stupid law that damaged the Indian economy by converting all of the lower banknotes into digital currency, hurting a lot of laborers and small businesses. Why did he do that? To collect tax revenue. He didn't care who he was harming and I bet India hardly collects any more taxes now, since the economy has slowed down.
Yeah same here which is why I was skeptical at first. But you don't seemt the type to make those accusations lightly so I'll take your word over the likes of the Indian and Pakistani Muslims I know tbh.

Its funny to see right wingers defend the citizenship law in the WR when its basically the Indian version of what they accuse Democrats of doing; handing out citizenship to migrants from neighboring countries based on their identity with the effect of increasing his base.

As with el-Sisi, I'm not sufficiently familiar with Morsi to comment.

I was never under the impression that people thought Erdogan was an austere or fundamentalist Islamist in the vein of the Ayatollah or Saudi clergy. Instead, I think the bulk of criticism of Erdogan is that he's a egotistical reactionary: he's ignorant, delusional, and gets into weird feedback loops like Trump where he insists upon his own misunderstandings - like his belief that interest rates cause inflation.

I've always considered him much more a nationalist than a theocrat.

Turkey is also in NATO with nukes the US provided so it raises his profile

Holy shit, the Washington Republican who was discovered several months ago to have planned far-right paramilitary training, planned armed attacks on protesters, and set up meetings between law enforcement and fascist groups......was also found to have engaged in domestic terrorism when he assisted the Clive Bundy occupation.....AND HE'S STILL IN OFFICE.

Low key kind of a sexist video title. You'd have the same sort of statements/jokes if it was Hilllary or Warren or Gillibrand. It's badass when Bernie or Biden or Trump scorns someone, but it's bitchy "let me talk to your manager"-ing when they do it.

Maybe not Kamala just because she's so damn smooth and silky.

Some people definitely do but moreso among low level commentators to be fair. Your assessment is more spot on.

True that.
who doesn't love Turkey....
on a sandwich?

Please tell me it isn't garbage.

They already fucked up Geralt by him not carrying two swords so my expectations are low.
I tried watching it last night
....not a good show. Not even an enjoyably bad show.

Would Witcher be enjoyable for someone who enjoys well done fantasy shows but hasn't played the game or at all know the source material?

I'll let you know. I just started it.
So far looks cheaply made, opening scene of show was dumb.

@HockeyBjj I say give it a watch. I only finished the first episode, but there was a decent fight scene in there. The casting fuck ups wont bug you. Production is mid range so far. They use a lot of washing out of color on the large scenes to cover up the lacking of a budget. Story wise I think you will be able to pick it up. Can always ask questions for clarity.

I think you have a point but I love these Karen jokes so I am willing to allow it this time.

This dude I'm angry we never got to see fight in the States prior to the dislocated elbow.

Can't believe he basically passed away without anyone really knowing he was dealing with cancer.

Explains though why he never fought again after the Salazar fight. He was diagnosed in 2016 but hid it from the public until August of 2018 and then he died like 3 weeks later.

No shit. How's this for a kick in the sack:
On my first trip to Japan, we went to his gym in Tokyo, YSA, because I had heard about the guy he saved from the subway tunnel and I wanted to tell him how I felt about that. Unfortunately, when we went, the place was totally empty except for one woman. She said he wasn't there because he was sick. Little did I know.

While I was there, I bought the largest sweatshirt they had, which would be a medium or a small here, and I took this after I heard of his passing,

I only just noticed the background looks casket shaped; that's some juicy serendipity. Wadda ya think of that mojo @N13?

RIP Kid, a hero to many, loved by all.
