First World Emergency in my household today, my espresso machine packed it in and parts won't arrive until mid-January.
I was jonesing just thinking about it.
So essentially I was forced to upgrade (though admittedly I only drink a couple of cups a day on these 40+ degrees Celsius days).

Spoiler: Pedantic details

Apparently the solenoid on the three way valve seized, causing the pump to blow all the lines and rupture itself. Needs a new pump, new 3-way valve, all new seals and new lines.
Quoted $500 for repairs, but parts won't arrive until mid January, which is completely unacceptable (although I'll probably do the work myself and source parts online, which should bring it down to @$200).
Managed to pick up a Bezzera Galatea Domus for $1300, which was a great price, but the thing's massive and taken over the kitchen. Looked a lot smaller in the pictures.
My back wasn't particularly happy about carrying 27kgs of poorly balanced stainless Italian dining sculpture up the stairs.
It also seems to radiate heat like a 1000W bar heater.

That's sweet. I've never seen stray dogs in any of the cities that I've lived in, but Havana is famously filled with stray dogs everywhere and I fall in love with one every time I visit. But it's sooooo complicated and expensive to take a stray animal from any country, let alone one that your home country is embargoing.

Gotta give Bob Barker credit with spreading awareness about spaying and neutering.

My Dad told me that Philly had a ton of stray dogs when he was kid (which would explain why dog catchers were such a big part of old cartoons) but I've only seen a handful in person and they had collars so I assume they are just pets that got away.

Every once in a while you see people posting dogs they found on my neighborhood's Facebook page or subreddit and there has always been a happy ending with either the owner claiming the dog or somebody resuicng it.

Yeah, those consumer appliances make shit coffee, only last a couple of years at best and aren't user serviceable. Never understood the appeal of pod coffee.

Look if he did something that makes him deserved to be out of office then get rid of him. But if he did the news is not exactly doing a very good job explaining that to the public. Something Ukraine something. The impression that I get and this could be completely off base is he is getting impeached because the Dems don't like Trump. And I see these statements and letters that boil down to me to say I know so much better than the public trust us this guy should go.

The GOP strategy has been to try to give that impression.

The reality is that there is a lot that could justify impeachment. The specific Ukraine thing is just that Congress approved desperately needed aid to Ukraine, and rather than simply disperse it, Trump tried to force them to publicly announce an investigation into Biden to help him (Trump) in the next election.

And finally it just all feels so disingenuous to me. We know the Senate is not going to remove him so what is the point of all of this?

Congress is just doing its job. It would be unconscionable to just let that kind of abuse of power and criminality by the president go by with no response. If senators are going to put partisan loyalty over their responsibility to the public, that's their issue, but even then, the public should know that about them.

I used to know people that worked at Keurig HQ outside of Boston. There were a surprising amount of people that worked there that acknowledged the problem with waste and wished they could go back in time and start over.

I have a larger demonstrated background in constitutional law than over 90% of the law professors that signed the last open letter. I don't know much about these history professors but I would bet money that most of these guys are in the same boat. And this is the truth I have no idea whether Trump committed anything that deserves impeachment. I have a pretty cursory knowledge of what he did for one thing. Most of what I know about it I read here in the war room.

Well I a don't believe that most of these people actually know better than you or me. Being a historian or a law professor does not instantly translate into being a impeachment expert.

How are you possibly this uninformed on the Ukraine scandal and the bases for impeachment? With very, very minimal inquiry, you'd see he committed impeachable conduct by using extralegal channels to extort a foreign government into opening a sham investigation into his political rival. And, furthermore, how do you feel comfortable making normative judgments about these professors' conduct when you explicitly state you don't know about what Trump did?

Also, being a trial attorney in an area of the constitution (2nd Amendment) that is totally unrelated to impeachment doesn't really put you on the level of professors who teach constitutional law. That's like a podiatrist citing his 50 years in the practice of medicine to contradict other doctors on the issue of cardiology.

Assuming Trump has done something that makes him deserving of being removed from office then the Dems and all the assorted commentators and professors have done a extremely poor job of explaining what that is.

We live in a republican democracy. If a elected official especially the President is removed from office the public needs to understand why.
