Opinion Voting is pointless, convince me otherwise or agree

Should TS be banned? Vote now, not like it matters!

  • No, of course voting doesn't matter!

I'm not saying our system is ideal, but giving up all of your voting power is silly to me

You should definitely vote, and often at the booth you don't just vote for a president, you vote on many goverment positions. And new laws or provisions too

Do your part, do it for America

When everybody does the same what do we have left?

Anarchy. I'm sure that's much better than the life we have now! Voting is literally the most important civic duty you can engage. Spoiling a ballot is more effective than just not voting. Write in a cartoon character. At least it represents your displeasure with the available options.

Even with all of the flaws we're experiencing, never forget that we're also living at the best point in human history by a fucking mile. And the right to vote in that system is something most people don't take seriously enough.

It's just Toronto ridings are SO locked down if the liberals lose even one it makes the news.

It's not common that the riding changes. toronto basically dictates who is PM, it has that much voting power. It is no wonder, to me atleast, why every single other province, and the rest of ontario hates us. (I hate us too)

Yeah, they do have a stronghold I'm the area but ontario also has a strong conservative presence at the provincial level. So much so that the Liberals don't have party status at the moment. So voting does matter.

You should vote for your local elections and initiatives. They are important and a better chance to make your vote count. If you really want your vote to count serve jury duty.

George was a wise man.

Less than 1 min:

And this "democracy" is mathematically impossible.
24 mins:

All US presidents come from the same bloodline.

P.s. I do have my tinfoil hat on. I'm out.

Because it's the best system for a representative democracy. Otherwise, how would you do it? Don't be mad your vote gets canceled out based on your riding. Also, there are things beyond the executive. Local, municipal, state and congressional all matter as well.
Local votes are so important. And there’s races where only like 200 votes are getting cast and the person who wins decides what to do with a million dollar grant in the local community

That can be a huge, life’s altering decision

Voting for local and state shit actually matters
This 100x.

I don't really even care about voting for Federal politicians anymore.

I care more about the state, county and city elections and props... you know, people and things that actually matter.

Democracy is working it's magic in the poll. Interesting to see the final results and if the mods have the balls to ban him.

I know they do I'm just instigating

I told you its rigged.

Maybe your vote won't matter in the Presidential election but most ballots also have local races as well. It might make a difference.

Personally, I wish we didn't have the electoral college. I think it's crazy that a person can get a million more votes and still lose.

Voting for party approved candidates who are chosen by a bunch of leadership twats who DGAF about you is pointless, you will get sodomized no matter which one of those asshats you vote for regardless of which party they represent. Where your vote actually counts is in the selection process of the potential candidates, it doesn't happen nearly enough, but every once in a while you can sneak a candidate in who does represent your interests and make some changes for the better.

Local elections directly impact someone's day to day life in big ways. People being indifferent or flippant about them is super odd. Property taxes, roads, parks, zoning garbage, snow removal...those are issues you deal with directly day in and day out. They are also competed by people directly in your area, so accountability and access to them are much easier than state / provincial and federal since there's no party line they have to tow

I have never heard a good argument for why I should vote.

“It’s your civic duty”, not really, it’s not required.
“You are not participating in the democracy” im not participating anyways, my vote is meaningless, I’ve never seen a election get anywhere close to 1 vote mattering, better chance of winning the lottery.

Why should I take time to do something utterly pointless that won’t affect or change anything.

Now I can understand why you need to tell large number of people to vote, but personally on the individual single vote level, it’s stupid as hell.

I don’t vote, I think it’s the smart thing to do.

I do understand why it’s important to lie and tell people to vote and it’s important because the system breaks if everyone follow the same logic, however everyone knows, a single vote don’t mean shit.
Florida.

At the end of the day we all know voting is just one big ass blast

But if you don't vote, the government won't know whether to send $100B to Israel next year or a huge more reasonable $90B.

In a direct democracy where you vote for the actual policys and law changes instead of promises by slimebags it makes sense. Politicians rarely keep their promises and are expected to lie to win. Of course people will get mad at you for not deciding between the shitsandwich and giant turd but i see your point.
