Excellent take.
If Volk had the blueprint on how to beat McGregor, and had all the information we currently have, given his fight IQ and skills, he would be heavily favored, even against prime McGregor, i would say 80/20.
But, if Volk had faced prime McGregor when he had his aura of invincibility, when no one knew how to beat him, it's a 50/50 fight, maybe even 55/45 for McGregor.

Lol at the delusion in this thread. Conor has literally beat all of the people that Volk has beat, except he did it better, and when those people were in their prime. Conor would knock out Volk any day of the week.

I don't know if mma math works here. Volk is just a bad style match up for any version of conor. He excels at attacking the lead leg, he's a very good offensive wrestler, he pushes a pace and has cardio for days. All things Conor struggles with greatly

He also happens to be 3 inches shorter than Conor, has a 3 inch reach disadvantage, has no real power, and almost got knocked out by a bjj guy. Not to mention Conor beat Mendes who is a far better wrestler than Volk, especially at the time. There is zero reason to think Volk wouldn’t have gotten knocked out in a fight against prime Conor.

He beat short noticed Mendes who was injured going into the fight and only lost because he gassed, something we both know volk wouldn't do. Volk has never ever struggled with height or reach disadvantages. He excels as the shorter fighter. There's a plethora of reasons to favor volk

Lol I feel like we’ve had this discussion before. Just because Volk has done well against people taller than him does not make it an advantage for him. It’s still a disadvantage, it’s just a disadvantage that so far he has been able to overcome.
As far as the Mendes fight goes, Conor is the reason he gassed. He got hit 100 times in the stomach during the first round alone. Either way you slice it, Conor’s win is still more impressive. He fought a Mendes that was on top of his game, while Volk fought him after a two year lay off. Mendes retired after that fight because he knew he just didn’t have it anymore.

Yes and no. I mean, he beat him three times, and simply wasn´t scared of Max´s striking and wanted to prove that he was better there as well. But I´m with you that for ALL THREE damn fights I was shouting for Volks to wrestle more and shoot. With Conman, it would depend on whether he thinks his striking is better/faster than Conman´s or not. Of course if he thinks his striking is worse than Conman´s I would assume he´d wrestle. Just seeing Conman´s fights, Volks would be an idiot not to wrestle imo.

If Volk avoids the left and don't crumble to Conor's pressure he will slowly wear Conor down with clinch, leg kicks and takedown attempts.
I know Conor can be agresive and at FW he had great accuracy but Volk is too fast and have a high fight IQ, I'm confident Volk can overcome that 3 inch reach disadventage.
I give Volk around 70-75% of chance of winning cause you never know with Conor at FW.

Yes and as @fortheo is astutely pointing out, there's no compelling reason to believe that it suddenly wouldn't be an overwhelming disadvantage he can't overcome. Especially when he's fighting an opponent over which he holds significant edges in cardio, grappling, and low kicks... areas where Conor has always struggled at least marginally, even in his prime.
For the record I do agree that Conor is the victim of recency bias in many of these discussions and I would give him a solid chance of scoring an early KO/TKO or even a damage-based Decision, but overall I would level the odds in favor of Volk, the more well-rounded fighter.
