Media Volk wants Max to stop beating up his contenders

Volk doesn't get a second freebie title shot at lightweight. If he wants another one, he's going to have to move up and earn it with a top 5 win.

We've already got a back log of deserving guys who actually fight in the division. Having the YOLO Volk fight in the first place has screwed over Dariush and who knows if he'll ever get a title shot - its life changing money and he got denied his due over this already.

Get where your coming to an extent about having to fight at 155 but what backlog at LW? Hell if Charles beats Dariush is there a clear cut LW contender? Also come to think of it if Volk beats Yair who is up next at FW? Should Volk beat Yair in July, provided Yair isn't actually being a diva and demanding a fight in Mexico when they open the UFC PI down there, and should Charles beat Dariush I'd rather see Islam Volk 2 than Islam Charles 2. Who else is there at LW that's put in a performance that makes you consider them deserving?

Ascared his immense luck will finally run out Volk should move up to LW until someone can get past Max. After Max clears the contenders they can do another reunion. Max keeps Volk on his toes at least. Volk shown he is better but he still needs to be in top form to best Max.

Does Islam though? If Volk absolutes runs over Yair and Charles beats Dariush is there a clear cut number one LW contender? I'd rather see Islam Volk 2 than Charles Islam 2. Think most people would based on their respective showings against Islam tbh. He has SO much work to do at LW, He should be fighting contenders this summer. there is zero reason he doesn't have a fight booked for june/july, Other than the UFC wants to save him for october.


Volk is a completely different story, He's on the victory lap of the FW division should he dispose of yair. But you could easily go with the winner of Emmet/Topuria after that, two top guys that volk hasn't fought yet, Topuria (whom I expect to win) is a younger undefeated challenger for Volknovski.

I will concede that i'd rather watch volk vs islam 2 than charles vs islam 2, but that does mean they should do it.

It's an unfortunate situation. Max is clearly the 2nd best FW in the world and likely whoops the whole division outside of Volkanovski who he's lost to 3 times. He's destined to waste what's left of his prime years as a gatekeeper. Would really like to see him test himself at LW

yeah before any rematches or champ champ shit or other divisions, Islam needs to defend his belt in his weight class against fighters in his weight class. then talk about moving up in weight.

Topuria's and possibly Evloev though he'd probably need 2 good wins to get in to the picture are the only names left at FW after Volk Yair should Volk win. Gaethje? With his take down defense would get subbed inside the first. Poirier maybe but again he's one fight removed from a title fight and arguably hasn't got an elite win since he beat Max moving up to LW, don't really consider Chandler elite nor are the vestiges of what's left of Conor. Dariush is the one you'd give the fight to with a win but should he lose, given it looks increasingly likely Islam's next fight will be in September/October in Abu Dhabi unless Gaethje and Poirier fight each other reasonably soonish with the winner staking a claim for a title fight first, Volk with an impressive win should be absolutely at a minimum be in the conversation for Islam's next fight in October.

I disagree on your emmet take he was overdue for a title shot and just lost an interim title fight, I think beating a young undefeated beast puts him right back at the front of the line.

I mean, you have to feel at least a bit sorry for Max. The guy is elite, has so many wars behind him and would have been a long reigning champion in any other time except when you have a once in a generation freak talent such as Volk around. Moving up in division proved hard for both of them, I don’t see how that is a very viable option for Max if he wants to hold the belt again.

I love Max but the guy cuts 30lbs pre-fight to avoid threats....
I feel worse for a guy as Frankie Edgar, going up against men 20+lbs heavier as Ben Henderson and still not getting any favour by judges in flip coin decs.

I think they should do the fair thing and fight at 145. Volk conceded a huge disadvantage fighting at 155 and may well be able to beat Islam at 145. If one guy is bigger, the only fair thing is to fight at the smaller guy's weight. Volk had the balls to fight Islam at 155, so Islam should show some balls and fight him at 145.
