Media Volk wants Max to stop beating up his contenders

I think they should do the fair thing and fight at 145. Volk conceded a huge disadvantage fighting at 155 and may well be able to beat Islam at 145. If one guy is bigger, the only fair thing is to fight at the smaller guy's weight. Volk had the balls to fight Islam at 155, so Islam should show some balls and fight him at 145.
I understand what you are saying and in theory is a great idea, however when you factor in Islam can barely make 155 just how in fuck is he supposed to make 145? That doesn’t seem possible.

Considering the step up , thought Arnold Allen fought well even though he was betting favorite. He's the first " contender" of the group that I expect to see fighting Volk after his next win. He will take so much from this fight with Max going forward. Max's chin still ridiculous..... Arnold absolutely folds 145ers from some of the shots he landed on Holloway.

Don't feel too sorry for Max guys. Volkamovski for all his greatness will never have the style that is as captivating as what max displays in full flow. Ortega, Kattar just being 2 of the finest examples.

I'm starting to pine for a 4th fight between the two lol (only joking I've had enough).

Also ik B4 yeah but max takes a ton fo damage -fuck off!!

Volk is just worried that once he ages out of FW, Max will reclaim the title and rebuild his legacy. Despite the damage and mileage that has followed Max, it’s worth remembering that Volk was a heavy bastard during his rugby days. He has looked sensational, even in his loss to Islam-but the levy has to break at some point and he’s turning 35 this year.

Volk doesn't get a second freebie title shot at lightweight. If he wants another one, he's going to have to move up and earn it with a top 5 win.

We've already got a back log of deserving guys who actually fight in the division. Having the YOLO Volk fight in the first place has screwed over Dariush and who knows if he'll ever get a title shot - its life changing money and he got denied his due over this already.

In that MacLife interview, he also said he wants to fight Islam again and doesn't take Yair lightly at all. So, Volk vs Islam 2 after Volk beats Yair inshallah.

Interesting scenario if Yair and/or Allan can beat Volkanovski. After last weekend's fight, I think it's entirely possible that Allan's style matches up more favorably with Volk than it did with Holloway.

Money-wise I get him wanting to hold on to it. But competition-wise I’d rather see how he goes against the rest of the top 155ers.

And because he’s already been granted one shot at Islam. For me, getting a second crack at the title above your division should come with some kind of trade off.
Glad you do not run a promotion then

This time around I'd like to see Volk maybe fight someone else at 155 should he get past Yair.

They need to stop awarding stalling. It's so fkn annoying. Islam didn't do shit in the 4th round, held on for dear life. Volk was more active and his shots were more damaging. No sub attempt, no advancing position, just holding like a lil coward.

2, 3 and 5 for Volk and I'll die on this hill. His shots were more effective and he dropped Makhachev 2 times in those 3 rounds.

1 and 4 for Islam but that 4th round was pathetic. Fair play to him in the 1st round.

Damage > all but it didn't count this time:

Volk broke him in the 5th round.
However you wanna spin it fights are judged round by round. Islam won more rounds regardless if Volk did more damage. Islam won fairly under the current rules.

Do you have examples of Islam adapting in rematches? I don't know if he's as good at adapting as volk is. Islam was younger and bigger the first fight, too, so again, unless volk ages overnight, that's not a big factor here. I don't think the location of that fight altered anything really -- if anything I think it made volk too excited which is why he stupidly joked around mid fight, which led to him giving up his back and thus the fourth round.

And I agree with your last sentence.

So you believe that the burden of proof for more improvement is on the younger, less experienced fighter who fought in the home country of his opponent and won, with less time to rehydrate his larger frame?

Mysteriously hometown advantage was a negative for Volk and he will improve between fights more than the younger, less experienced fighter?

Look, Volk accounted for himself very well. That fight could have gone either way, but the intangibles all favored Volk in ways they won't so much next time. The burden of proof for more improvement is on Volk, 100%.

If he hadn’t have fought Islam he could have lined up Emmet and Yair back to back

I understand what you are saying and in theory is a great idea, however when you factor in Islam can barely make 155 just how in fuck is he supposed to make 145? That doesn’t seem possible.
Is it impossible? I don't know, but I am sure at minimum they could do a 150 catch weight.

The first fight was very close and you can say Volk arguably beat him. I have no doubt Volk makes the adjustments and gets it done. The only thing that worries me is his age. Hope he's still in his peak form but he doesn't have time.

And Max really never properly moved up. He needs to add some muscle and gain weight properly. I can see him being a problem in there.
He never arguably beat him ya crazy lol 49 46

I like volk's chances a lot in a rematch,

Islam's counter-punching was on point. It looked like Volkanovski didn't prepare much for Islam's striking style.

Islam walked backward and timed the jab. Volkanovski might have trained wrestling too much.

I feel like people are exaggerating the ending of round 5. Does somebody have the footage of the "ground-and-pound" at hand? I don't think it was as bad as people believe since most of the ground and pound didn't hit the target. I may be remembering wrong tho

Evloev isnt really mentioned much. his style is too safe and he always goes to a decision. when Max goes to a decision the fights are dynamic and exciting. i watched Evloev beat Dan Ige and it was a lot of grinding and slower paced wrestling positions and dominance in that fashion. i dont believe the UFC would be keen on giving him a push for title contention. he might wind up in a Beneil Dariush or Arnold Allen situation; with a giant win streak but still no title shot.
Agreed not the most exciting but a few wins coupled with a dearth of contenders and he could be up there. Not sure how he'd hold up against the elite FWs though, if he rolls over Mitchell with ease give him a top 5 fight maybe a returning Ortega.

Holy shit the idea that the ufc would wait 10 months for a super fight rematch when both champs have people to fight is crazy
Does Islam though? If Volk absolutes runs over Yair and Charles beats Dariush is there a clear cut number one LW contender? I'd rather see Islam Volk 2 than Charles Islam 2. Think most people would based on their respective showings against Islam tbh. Do feel bad for Dariush though if he wins and the UFC again says no to a title fight, he wins he should be next no debate.

If he is close to the end but still believes in himself, yes.

Whoever beats Max is getting a title shot. Its Zombies only realistic path back at this point.
He might but does anyone else? Max batters him worse than he did Kattar. I'd like to see Zombie not even necessarily given a softball fight or fights on his way out but at least fights where it would be a competitive war, it wouldn't be competitive against Max short of Max's granite chin cracking pre fight.
