Volk dancing away from the action

I believe it was the second round that there was a left hook that Lopes ate right on his button, many a fighter would have folded right there.

Volk made the smart decision, if you are you looking to KO someone but they are eating your best shots, it is time to change the gameplan because you are playing their game instead of imposing your own.

This is a matter of good IQ, he was still landing great shots but they were measured.

He did. But what bothers me is that there were certain points where volk was running away from the fight.

Volkanovski absolutely blasted Lopes a bunch of times and thoroughly outstruck him.

You have no idea what you are watching.
 
The fact that he ran the last 2 rounds with him constantly looking at the clock leaves a bad taste. Of course people will say it was smart. But people will also praise Max for engaging the last 10 sec vs Justin. So are we praising smart fight or brawl the final minutes of a fight?

Yup, Diego had good moments but he lost every round. You could argue round 2 but I had it 50-45. One knock down doesn't undo an entire round of being bested .

Volk undoubtedly lost 4th round
 
Volk pieced him up. He stood in the pocket with lopes for the first two rounds and got the better of most those exchanges, landed plenty of hard strikes and hurt Lopes more than we've ever seen lopes hurt before. He did adopt the stick and move style for the last three rounds, but why wouldn't he when he seemingly couldn't miss with his jab? and even in those rounds he was still landing the occasional hard hook mixed in with those jabs.

Rounds 1,3, and 5 were pretty damn clear for volk. Round 4 was clear for Lopes. 2 was debateable.

Yea I agree, but I would say the knockdown should have won Lopes the round
 
The eye shot in the 4th made Volk look bad, but even while blinded and in retreat mode, he bested Diego in most of the exchanges and out landed him. Volk consistently stepped into the line of fire, landed hard shots and got out before Diego landed back.

Maybe I'm the blind one if people believe Volk lost a round

I mean, he was still punching lopes in the face while circling and looking at the clock. literally shut lopes' eye in those rounds.

Not once in that fight did he consider finishing his opponent. He has a point fighting mentality, the only reason this fight was remotely fun was because he kept getting chin checked by Lopes with the few punches he landed lol.

Volk was in there throwing hard for the first 3 rounds leading and shutting Lopes down. He was trying to put Lopes out. Lopes stood on the outside, went backwards and tried to catch a single big shot, which he did at the end of the 2nd.

4th round Volk landed 39 strikes whilst not being able to see for a portion of that round. He was winning the wild exchanges in that round whilst hurt.
The 5th he was backing up and again outstriking Lopes(closing his eye).

Rewatch the fight. Volk landed some of the biggest strikes he has in his entire UFC career. Lopes just has a chin and ate them.
Outside of the 4th when he was hurt and at the end of the 5th, Volk was the one coming forward all fight.

Weird take. It's like you forgot 23 mins of the fight and even the end had Volk landing as they finished.

His style became way more aggressive after Holloway 2. He's been a total bad ass since then. And even in this fight, he barely threw leg kicks and constantly landed massive hooks to Lopes's iron head.

Seriously, the dude was standing in the pocket with Lopes for a lot of the first two rounds and winning many of those exchanges. He hurt lopes more than anyone else has. Yet people have a problem because he decided to put on a jab master class after getting dropped and losing some eye sight. Wtf? they clearly wanted him to lose or something lol.

those jabs were stiff af too. nobody knows wtf they're watching. they're all a bunch of helwanis who shit their pants any time a fighter neutralizes his opponent's strengths.

Man, I'm glad people noticed the crack of those jabs.

Lopes wasn't just not moving forward into striking range because he felt like it, the sting of the jabs were compounding the troubles he had with the footwork distance early.

People don't know what they are watching or need to feel a jab a few dozen times to feel what its like.

Was that in the 4th were he outlanded Lopes 39-16 or the 5th with an even bigger margin of 43-14 in sig strikes?
He ran for less than 1 min of the entire fight and it was after his eye got caught and the 5th where he still outlanded Lopes during the final wild exchanges.
