Virtue Signaling in Gaming Megathread, v.2

Just look at the original Star Trek, which was extremely progressive in it's themes,

Gene Roddenberry who was optimistic in the way he portrayed humanities advancements in the future. Who defined characters and races around stereotypes from the 1950's.

Overall using Star Trek to support your argument doesnt work here. Star Trek at its core revolves around dealing with ethical dilemmas.

@GearSolidMetal has been progressively going across this entire forum injecting anti-lefty rhetoric into every discussion over these past few months. Up until now its been kinda funny. For even in the most mundane topic his posts comically inserted some random anti DEI/SJW and or us versus them rant by him, lol. Who has now plataued into straight up bigotry under the falsified disguise of 'its just a joke bro'. *If you want further context browse the twitter post history of the twitter users he keeps posting here. Its obvious he's stuck in a social media bubble geared towards indoctrinating someone into white nationalism.

Pertaining to @Valhoven ive relayed my thoughts to him here and in PM's last month.
Hopefully that’s the point of this thread. I got tired of seeing that stuff too. I stopped posting in the war room for that reason. Culture war bullshit just took over everything and the stupid account “End Wokeness” is everywhere. Who the hell is running that thing anyway? They spew the most vile shit regularly that only ends up radicalizing incels. At least the stellar blade discourse finally died down, fuck that was annoying.

Astarion being gay or bi or whatever is an example of an lgbt character done right. He was a super interesting character and it was crafted as part of his identity. He was mega popular with the fan base. It’s proof that most gamers are fine with LGBT characters. They just have to be done well.

Basically all party members are bi-sexual, or even pansexual/beast-sexual if you're playing as a Dragonborn.

Astarion being gay, or bi, looses all significance.

Astarion being gay, or bi, looses all significance.
Well, it shouldn't have significance. It should just be there. Adding "significance" to certain sexual preference is what fucks it all up. We've been playing games with open ended romantic decisions for quite a while now.

That quote is insane. This is why according to poll data Americans often overestimate the amount of people that identify as LGBT. I believe they do so because they’re actually overrepresented at this point. Real statistics show trans people make up just 1 percent or slightly less and gay/ lesbian about 5 percent. If the gaming industry wanted to reflect real life representation there should actually be a push to include less in my opinion. Hard disagree with the gaming crash though, still so many studios that don’t think this way. Most from east Asia don’t do any of this stuff and I find them the most fun anyway
No, not really. Surveys of Americans by generation, including ones that allow for anonymity, more often peg it this way:
  • >1% = Greatest Generation
  • ~1% = Baby Boomers
  • 4%-6% = Gen X
  • 8%-12% = Millennial
  • 20%-28% = Generation Z

I have long supported gay rights, but I have also not withheld my concern over the emerging trend seeking to openly foster homosexual feelings where there are none, and to inculcate the youngest generation into believing they lie on a "spectrum" implying they are by definition instrinsically bisexual to a degree. This is bullshit. Many leftists, who don't want to admit these figures have incontrovertibly undermined the long-accepted argument by advocates that homosexuality isn't environmentally influenced, have dug their heels into the ground by insisting that we were always at least this much gay, but people were afraid to admit it. They repeat it every time the numbers go up. It never made sense because people were never asked to openly declare their identities in these surveys/studies. This is true even when the double-blind methodology is implemented.

It's time to draw a line in the sand. There is an unmistakeable agenda here among a proactive group of people to persuade the world we're all just gay if we would simply be honest with ourselves. They have a very powerful presence in the videogame industry.

Think I'm exaggerating? I'm not. Recently, there was a show called The Magicians that ran from 2015-2020 that was sometimes described as 'Harry Potter for the kids who read that books that grew up.' In other words, Harry Potter after hitting puberty, where our priority naturally becomes sex. It was a sex soap opera aimed at adolescents and young twenty-somethings. The main character, the equivalent of Harry Potter, Quentin, who at first is presented as a straight character, cheats on his girlfriend in a threesome that involves another man (this homosexual behavior is later repeated without the girl). Also, in a later season, due to an enchantment, Quentin lives an entire lifetime in a committed relationship with the male from that threesome as a couple, even raising a surrogate daughter. While solving a magical puzzle unravels the spell, the nature of the story is that the timeline still happened, and is subconsciously remembered, then later recalled by Quentin. Yet, despite this, even after this happens in the series, his lover later describes him as a "straight male".

Straight males don't have sex with other men. Not even once. They certainly don't choose a gay partner for life. It's absurd. But that was a deliberate message those showrunners wanted to ingrain in their viewers-- these teenage Harry Potter fans grown up. "It's okay if you fuck a guy, it just happens, sometimes, maybe more than once, it doesn't mean you're not 'straight'. You're totally normal. It's just normal behavior to be sexually fluid. You can be gay for a night, or a month, or a lifetime, but straight later. Yeah, you're straight whenever you want to be. It's fluid."

And that's a word they love to use. Fluid. It's the concept they seek to instill. Until they can dispense with that when the ultimate goal is achieved: convincing everyone we're all gay, really, down deep, and that could be our decision on any given night. This is very much the mindset and culture they seek to nurture. It's not a mistake.

And here I have reached the limit of my tolerance. I will not tolerate it. Because it's not true. It's psychosexual grooming, and it disgusts me.

I don't understand why Star Trek wouldn't work in his argument

Star Trek revolves around resolving complex internal and foreign matters through dialogue. Introduction of current day social, economic, theological and or political conflicts is common within the IP storylines. Picard at best was a mediocre attempt to bridge that philosophy of Star Trek with JJ Abrams modernization style by making it action oriented.

Did you discover a point that refutes my comments on the vast difference of writing quality between the shows in that deflective nonsense, @WhiteMousse?

Yeah, me neither.

Yeah I don't get it either. By his own words the show used to be about utopianism, an optimistic view of how humanity could ostensibly reach its best self. It was very political but discussed such issues in good faith. That IP has been commandeered by people making deliberate attempts to insert specific talking points and now it's just trash. It strikes me as a pretty good example of how extreme leftism is so corrosive.

Yeah I don't get it either.

Its simple, nothing can be just bad anymore. Must have this forced in reasoning that fits your preferred narrative that uses surface level buzz words. No different than far left people who say the new Dune movies is a representation of current day Palestinians plight.

Go watch Plinketts review of Picard for proper context.

Not trying to be dismissive of you, I just didn't understand what exactly you were getting at. I don't have a preferred narrative, and I was careful not to use "buzzwords".

I watch RLM on a regular basis, I saw the review you've mentioned. I'm pretty sure Rich has mentioned that kind of stuff. Mike is seemingly ambivalent, like he is about most things.

EDIT: I do agree that some things are just poorly done, and not necessarily because of any particular push for ideology. Hopefully I've never given the impression to the contrary

That the success of Star Trek came during the TNG era. Where in the inaugural seasons Roddenberry had full control yet was despised by cast, production staff and fired writers weekly. His show vision was insanely dry. Once he was removed from production the show took off.

Fast forward to today where these TNG actors career are mainly defined by these roles with rose tinted glasses. That had no say in story and character. Who are being used by Paramount thirty years later to promote their new live streaming service. With an IP thats in a weird place trying to closely mimic the scale and scope of a large singular threat in superhero movies. While including the core messaging of Star Trek that is metaethics. This is how the show falls short. For action and metaethics arent complimentary narratives.

Point is its best to not use a IP grounded in discussing metaethics to define your dislike of 'woke lecture'.
You don't have a point. You are putting on deflector shields, because you're a lefty who is offended by anyone suggesting that woke bullshit is hurting writing in the entertainment industry. What you're failing to grasp(or pretending to) is that there is wide chasm between "progressive" and "woke". And no, the current Star Trek being more of an action series does not excuse it's terrible writing when tackling progressive themes.

LOL @ "metaethics". Anymore made up words you got, to deflect away from the fact that even the most long running progressive series like Star Trek, is not immune to the woke virus, making everything black and white cringe woke lecturing?

Babble, babble, babble...

Anything to ignore the obvious, 'eh? LOL.

Anything to ignore the obvious, 'eh? LOL.

"They will effortlessly carve out a exception for its makes them exceptional. They engage in wild hypocrisy in an act of domination. Adhering to something demonstrably untrue out of spite. Because they believe that power belongs to those with the greatest will to take it. And what greater sign of will than the ability to override truth.

Their will is a hammer that they are using to beat reality itself to a shape of their choosing. A simple world, where reality is exactly through their eyes. Devoid of complexity, devoid of change. Where they are right and their enemies are silent. They are trying to build a flat earth."
