Vinyl Records, do you still buy them?

Found a shop here in my neck of the woods called Vinyl Daze. This store is awesome! I got my dad a vinyl record player and picked up Van Halen- 5150, Billy Idol- Rebel Yell, Cheap Trick- Dream Police, Pat Benatar, Huey Lewis and the News.

Fantastic store.

Finding a new store is great

I'm lucky that here in orange county there are several great ones and I can still venture out to LA to find more

Yes, I like the act of playing a vinyl. Like yall said, I rarely stop the player until I've listened to the whole record and just opening it up, putting it on and starting it feels fun. I listen to mp3s more of course, but when I'm really wanting to just listen to music and read or devote my mind to the music I prefer to play a vinyl.

I have a few Beatles albums, two Otis Redding albums, a few hip-hop albums, some Motown boxed sets, some Joe Cocker albums and a few others like Al Green, Wilson Pickett etc.

I used to hit the record shops up at least once a month years ago, but I can't remember the last time I bought one. Nothing quite like digging through a dusty stack of records and finding a gem.

no im not a hipster

To be fair, there are serious music lovers that are into vinyl records for genuine reasons.

The sad part is, collecting vinyl has become synonymous with retard hipster douche-bags. These dicks will buy a vinyl album they read was cool from some hipster music site in front of their friends and then never listen to it.

TS, to answer your question:

I do NOT collect vinyl. I use my ipod and a set of headphones. The less I have in my place the better.

I do occasionally. But I rarely see them. Mostly at flea markets and yard sales.

So fucking stupid. Do you actually see this happen in the store, then go home and watch these guys for months or something? How do you know they don't listen to the records they buy?

What does it matter what their motive is anyway, does it actually affect you? You seem to hate a lot of stuff. Life's too short to spend your time hating shit. Not only that, but even if they spend their money PURELY to show off to their friends and be hipsters, they're still spending their money supporting music shops and preserving a culture.

I have a nice antique record player at my moms place and I will be buying vinyl once again soon, I grew up listening to records and I miss it... I have an old stack of great music too.

If you want classic records try checking out estate sales in your area. You can view pictures of what they may have if they have a big collection, but people live to go to those and will get there early before it opens, and go straight for the records and start hoarding

I go old school, Edison wax cylinder phonographs or nothing. I bought it 10+ years ago at an auction sale for $50 not knowing what it was and it came with a bunch of cylinders.

I do. Some new. Some used.

I prefer the "process" of listening to a record and especially the sleeve artwork. It feels like more of a personal investment, an experience, that really draws you closer to the music.

Cd's/mp3 downloads, are just single songs that can easily be discarded and or forgotten. You have to wanna listen to music if you put on a record. You are more likely to listen to the side the whole way through, thereby discovering songs that you wouldn't normally listen to otherwise.

I have a band of midget minstrels that play my music for me. That's old school baby.

EXACTLY. Something about it makes it a bigger deal. I rarely ever stop the record from playing. Always listen to the whole thing.

Being a hipster has nothing to do with it. Try to be less ignorant.

nice! I only got two from Neurosis(their 2nd and 3rd releases) . Wish I had more.

The difference is that it is REAL sound as opposed to an mp3 which isn't.

I was collecting them for a few years and had bought a new record player but I ended up selling all of it because I rarely listened to them.
