At least one respected archaeologist has argued that Scandinavian contacts with another Asian steppe-people, the Huns, catalyzed the social changes that produced the Viking Age.

Well the Goths were originally from Sweden, and there are Swedish towns like Götaberg (Gothenburg) that still bear their name. So that is pretty northern.
