average rape sentence in Ireland was 10 years in 2016.

maybe the perp would serve 7

could be less for a first offence.

would depend on the severity of the attack.
Theres no way it could be less though? with the money he has like in rape cases in the u.s. if the perp is rich they almost always get less time or no time at all

if it was a violent sexual assault sentence would be on the higher side.

I'm not an expert on the factors influencing a sentence but violence / beating to go with the sexual assault would not help in keeping the sentence down.

here's a recent case

A man jailed for raping an intoxicated woman in a lane behind Harcourt Street in Dublin has had his 13-year jail term reduced to 11-and-a-half on appeal.

Rafael Tiso (33), who had been living in rented accommodation at Offaly Road, in Cabra, Dublin 7, pleaded guilty to rape, oral rape, aggravated sexual assault and assault causing harm to the woman at Montague Lane, Dublin on January 18th, 2016.

The Central Criminal Court heard that Tiso was seen leaving a nightclub in the Harcourt Street area with the intoxicated victim and walking with her down a lane. He left the lane 40 minutes later and returned to drink in the same bar for over an hour.

A passer-by heard a moaning noise and discovered the woman lying on the ground between a truck and a car, with her legs spread apart. The man believed the woman was dead at first as her eyes were closed and he did not want to touch her to contaminate the scene.

Both Tiso and the injured party were Brazilian nationals. On the evening in question, Dicey’s, one of the clubs on Harcourt Street, was holding a Brazilian night.

The victim was intoxicated and had also taken an Ecstasy tablet. She was clearly in an inebriated condition, according to witnesses and CCTV.

Another Brazilian man, an acquaintance of both Tiso and the victim, became concerned for her welfare and asked Tiso to stay with her while he got her some water.

Security staff in the club requested she leave. CCTV footage showed Tiso walking behind her as she was assisted out of the club by security staff.

They proceeded down nearby Montague Street and then Montague Lane, where a rickshaw garage is located. Tiso, a rickshaw driver at the time, left the lane 40 minutes later.

The then 23-year-old victim, who can not recall anything of the incident, suffered a deep tear to her rectum.

In his first four Garda interviews, Tiso suggested that consensual sex had occurred but, in the fifth interview, admitted his involvement in the offences.

He was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment with the final year suspended by Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy on November 1st, 2016.

However, this was reduced to 12-and-a-half years with the final 12 months suspended on Wednesday, with the Court of Appeal holding that the timing of Tiso’s guilty plea required particular credit.

I’ll start by saying I think it’s very likely he did the crime...so what I’m about to say isn’t me defending him but...

I just can’t see it going to trial (or getting a guilty verdict) without a victim testimony in the trial as a witness. Even if the initial statement made to police was used any decent lawyer (and certainly the type Conor would get) could cast reasonable doubt on that.

Even with DNA evidence of sex with Conor:

With no victim saying exactly who and how the alleged assault/rape occurred under cross examination...(the initial statement made to police could be torn apart as unreliable by a good lawyer I suspect).

Conor can claim the sex was consensual and any injuries obtained were not caused by him. He can claim to not know who caused the injuries. Maybe someone else at party or maybe even a jealous boyfriend of the victim once she returned home.
Conor can say he got wind of the fact the girl he had had consensual sex with was injured soon after this event and so he voluntary presented to the police to give his side of the story. The police asked for DNA which he cooperated with like the good citizen he is.

Why are people assuming the victim won't give testimony?

All signs to this point, point to her going ahead with this.

The speculation i saw, said the attacked persons partner was "best mates" with McGregors sisters partner.

It was just speculation online though, but that was my understanding of what i read.

Anyone find it a little suspicious that Owen Roddy left Conor's SBG and John K said he was hesitant about training him again in December?

Even the Artem doesn’t hang around anymore.

I really don't understand how anyone can read those first 2 paragraphs and still not be able to put 2 and 2 together.
Right. And yet we see all of this hype from MMA media about a Cowboy/Connor fight as if they have no idea what's going on. Man, I could not do that and live with myself.

Further, given 2+2, his lawyers will have told him to STFU (as they should). And, his social media will absolutely have been given to a PR firm (recent posts read strangely enough that I'm expecting kittens and puppies next).

@Mixedfights

I originally posted this in response to you in that thread in the Heavies and I probably should not have done that so I deleted it and am reposting it here.

1. In Ireland it is illegal for the media to release the name of the suspect.

2. An internal newsroom memo allegedly from the offices of RTE (Ireland's National Television and Radio Broadcaster) was leaked to the public online. The memo named Conor as the suspect in question.

3. RTE was questioned about the validity of the memo by a reporter from The Times in the UK and RTE declined to comment.

4. RTE then notified the DPC (Data Protection Commission) of a data breach in regards to the leaked newsroom memo. RTE is now open to a fine from the DPC as a result.

Do the math.

I believe in the veracity of the memo.

From an information design point of view I don't understand why they would name anyone in relation to the alleged crime and then say , "don't mention the name".

Google the names and the stories match to the following days news release, only an insider could know these fine minutiae, believe me it's legit
Look at my post above. It's been confirmed y the UK times as RTE had to report it as a data breach.

Maybe because it was the talk of the news room. RTÉ maybe wanted to cover its ass in case anyone blurted something out on air.

The police have clearly being briefing that it is a certain Irish sports star. Garda sources are cited in all the newspaper articles. So every news room in Ireland knows who it is. They just can't say it.
