Venum gloves

You probably had the venum wave.
No it didnt have those graphics. I think they were the challengers. They felt decent and I could make a nice fist with them. They were probably 50-60 bucks so im guessing it was their lower end line. Until I see better reviews though I have to hold off on venums higher end gloves.

I got a pair of venum on the way lets see if they are decent.

You know which model? I almost went and got the wand ones. I feel like i need a cheaper set of gloves for some sparring partners with very cheap gear. I feel weird protecting them with my good gloves and they have gloves that are either too stiff or dont have a good amount of cushion and you feel a bit more. I was looking at the venum and the adidas boxing gloves for this very reason lol.

I know a lot of people dislike venum gear but I was curious as to why.

I personally think that Venum gear is underrated in the US market. The clothes are indeed overpriced but the thai-made gear offers a decent quality/price ratio. The Venum Giant gloves are among the most compact and comfortable gloves I have ever tried, with great wrist support, padding, and hand compartment. The 100% leather Venum Absolute headgear has also been one of my personal favourites and it could easily pass as new. The cheaper, skintex, entry level products such as the challenger series offers also great quality for the price. The design of the brand is a matter of personal preference. Personally I hate the badboy wannabe design of most MMA fashion products and yet I like Venum.

I don't agree with people who praise products like Twins and Fairtex and badmouth Venum. Sure, Fairtex offers great quality gloves overall but hand compartment is mediocre while wrist support is almost nonexistent. This is the same for most thai brands such as Twins, Windy, Top King, for the simple reason that their products are designed specifically for muay thai and not for western boxing. Venum gear is made by the same high quality Thai material and craftsmanship but follows the western boxing guidelines en par with Everlast, Reyes, Grant, Winning, Title, etc. And this is what most people need. I'm talking strictly about boxing here and, unless you live in a country in SE Asia, your punching training is probably modelled after western boxing, whether as part of standup MMA or westernised muay thai.

Oh I do agree about fairtex I think they are completely overrated. Venues are a good glove IMO but they are definitely overpriced IMO. I don't see how they can price the giant gloves at 99 I think if they were like 74.99, that would be a better price but yeah I can't hate on venum because of the price.

To be honest they remind me a lot of my TUs Death Stars but with palm padding.

Everything is pretty much the same shape, closure, etc

I agree with this on a lot if points. Some brands are very overrated, but I think for venum to get more acceptance in the market they should lower the price a bit. They make me feel like I am shelling out more money for slick graphics. That really should be on the tail end of reasons to buy a glove.

I think the average consumer doesn't quite know what to make of Venum and their gear (gloves namely). I sure don't. When you think Venum, you think of their shorts. I own a pair of their Amazonia 2.0 shorts in green and they are quite functional, durable and just plain badass.

I don't like that they sell Skintex gloves for upwards of $90. That's bullshit. I know Hayabusa's Tokushus changed the way people look at synthetic leather, but Skintex Thai gloves are usually half that price.

However, I tried on the Giant 2.0 gloves at OTM for shits and giggles and was quite impressed. The Nappa leather was nice, the padding was soft but dense where it needed to be (no hard, cardboard-like padding rubbing against your knuckles like some Thai gloves) and the glove had great wrist support. I was definitely tempted to buy them.

A buddy of mine has had a pair of the Giant's(black) for quite some time and loves them. Puts in some time on the heavy bag and they have held up well.

Honestly I don't find the gloves that overpriced compared to high end brands such as Everlast, Reyes, or Grant. Thai brands are cheaper but like I mentioned earlier I would not recommend them for pure boxing. Btw you can find the Giants on sale at 74.99$ on their website as we speak.

The Challenger line is quite affordable but I agree that they should probably lower their prices anyway in order to deal with competition.

Thing is Reyes really performs though, I mean there are Reyes over 5 years old that still look decent. Most gloves are in tatters by that point.

Everlast is junk ill agree.

Grant is just overpriced period.

I find that their clothes are too expensive but the gloves are alright for the quality. Where did you see $90 for skintex Venum gloves? If I'm not mistaken, only the Challenger series has skintex and the price tag is 55$ tops. The 90$+ price should be for the leather gloves only.

For me the only brands worth-using in competition are Reyes, Grant, and Winning. The rule of the thumb is that Reyes is more offensive and results to more powerful shots but on the expense of the health of your wrists. Winning finds itself on the other extreme, they're well padded, offer less powerful shots, and are useful to people who have weak wrists (like Mayweather). Grant is sort of a compromise between the two.
If I were obliged to choose anything but those three it would be high-end Everlast or Venum, both of which I find very well balanced. But this is just me, every person has different preferences.

Do the Giants have the Nappa leather like the Giant 2.0s?

Yes to Sutton Mac. No to digi, the Venum Carbon model is skintex, despite being falsely labeled as leather. The venum challenger's are just a polyurethane mix, amazonia, carbon, etc are skintex. Wave, giant, absolute all leather.

Edit: giant, wave, absolute; all leather. Everything down to challenger; skintex. Challenger is polyurethane mix.

I simplified what I stated previously.

In that case I have no experience with the skintex models but I guess they should be avoided. Kinda makes sense now why people deem them overpriced.

Yes and they actually look way nicer than the 2.0s.

Really? I may have to look into those. A couple months ago, I was looking for a new pair of gloves and was debating between the Giant 2.0s and the Ringside Pro IMFs. I went with the Ringsides; I just didn't know enough about Venum gloves at the time to spend that much. What info I could find was also pretty negative.

MEGA, didn't you have a bad experience w/ Venum? I was reading some old threads a while back where the person had tried a couple different pairs of Venum gloves with no luck.
