Venum gloves

MEGA, didn't you have a bad experience w/ Venum? I was reading some old threads a while back where the person had tried a couple different pairs of Venum gloves with no luck.

Hey Mac. I wouldn't define my experience with venum as had, but rather unimpressive. I had the now discontinued Venum Power boxing gloves. They were a Thai cut, but had no palm padding at all. I found this suited my needs more than a glove with palm protection as I train in western boxing mostly. I thought at the time that venum might put the palm padding over the knuckles as a result of the design, but I was wrong. The giants a buddy has were 17oz and the power's were around 16.5. All were rated at 16oz from the factory. The Power boxing gloves were just too average to be $99.

MEGA, I hear ya on that, man. I find it's becoming more and more common for gear companies to overcharge for an average product, if just to make them seem better. Venum and fringe companies like Bad Boy do it, but some of the bigger companies, like TITLE, are guilty also.

Really? I may have to look into those. A couple months ago, I was looking for a new pair of gloves and was debating between the Giant 2.0s and the Ringside Pro IMFs. I went with the Ringsides; I just didn't know enough about Venum gloves at the time to spend that much. What info I could find was also pretty negative.

It appears that the negative reviews stem from specific models. I own the Challenger (low end) and Giant (high end) models and I've been very satisfied. I've never used Amazonia, Power and all those middle quality products but apparently the consensus is negative. I have not much experience with Ringsides either.

I personally think that Venum gear is underrated in the US market. The clothes are indeed overpriced but the thai-made gear offers a decent quality/price ratio. The Venum Giant gloves are among the most compact and comfortable gloves I have ever tried, with great wrist support, padding, and hand compartment. The 100% leather Venum Absolute headgear has also been one of my personal favourites and it could easily pass as new. The cheaper, skintex, entry level products such as the challenger series offers also great quality for the price. The design of the brand is a matter of personal preference. Personally I hate the badboy wannabe design of most MMA fashion products and yet I like Venum.

I don't agree with people who praise products like Twins and Fairtex and badmouth Venum. Sure, Fairtex offers great quality gloves overall but hand compartment is mediocre while wrist support is almost nonexistent. This is the same for most thai brands such as Twins, Windy, Top King, for the simple reason that their products are designed specifically for muay thai and not for western boxing. Venum gear is made by the same high quality Thai material and craftsmanship but follows the western boxing guidelines en par with Everlast, Reyes, Grant, Winning, Title, etc. And this is what most people need. I'm talking strictly about boxing here and, unless you live in a country in SE Asia, your punching training is probably modelled after western boxing, whether as part of standup MMA or westernised muay thai.

why Fairtex gloves will work in Muay Thai classes but not in Boxing ones?

I got some venum shin guards and the quality was terrible, for the same price as top king ones it's laughable. The strap at the back is just some cheap elastic, the foot barely bends down, the general feel of them is just cheap. I also got some gloves, but feel the quality will be the same so I'm just going to sell them and not open them. Overall not a venum fan and will be sticking to thai brands in the future

I guess i'll chime in.....I'm a huge Venum fan. I have quite a few pairs of gloves and shorts. The gloves are from the bottom of the line to the top and all have held up very well. I think the Challenger 2.0's are my fave. A budget priced glove that performs imo.

I've done reviews since my op, the tribals are easily the best venum has to offer. The giant 2s are very close 2nd. The absolutes are meh. The challengers are okay at best. The original giant 1s are okay but overpriced and had some minor issues.

I still need to try a pair of the Tribals. I do agree that the Giant 2.0 is a major step up from the 1.0. As far as the Challenger 2.0......they are 25 bucks at MMA Joes right now and that is a steal IMO. Compare that glove to a similar priced Evercrap. Leaps and bounds better.
