Can you over do veggie consumption? I put in as much spinach as I can cram in to the bottom of my blender and then handfuls of broccoli followed by some frozen fruit and acai juice and to top it off I put in a serving of Greens + Wild Berry Burst.
I think there's a limit to how much of the nutrients your body can absorb at once, but as far as consuming so much you're doing damage, I doubt it. I try to spreading your consumption throughout the day is probably your best bet, but if it's "eat 10 servings in the morning or don't eat any at all" then I think it's pretty easy to see which is better.
on pacing - I drink 4 quarts of water a day, I put two scoops of GNC strawberry whey in each of three of those quarts. this is the liquid I use to make my smoothies, and I drink on at the beginning of each quart. So, wake up, mix my protein in my first quart, throw 3+ servings of fruits and veggies into my blender add enough liquid from the mixed quart to make it blend, add some fat (coconut oil or butter usually), liquify, and consume. Over the next couple hours, I'll finish off that quart of protein mixture, then repeat the process 3 more times throughout the day. not everybody has a lifestyle or job that gives them access to a blender all day, but I happen to have just that so it works out well for me, HA!
All in all though, I don't think the recipe you listed is overkill at all. Mine might include half a bunch of hearty greens (kale, collards, spinach (not technically a hearty green), chard, etc.), an orange, and some frozen berries. my blender won't hold any more by the time I turn it on.
Another perk of the vitamix: frozen veggies + chicken broth + turn the dial to 11 = soup. Doesn't get much easier than that!
