I have a feeling Val will compete until she passes the torch, whenever that may be.
She is so deeply committed to the martial arts lifestyle I don't think she could accept walking away and wondering if she could have kept winning.
I think she rides it until the wheels come off, be that via injury, age or opposition talent catching up to the bar she set.
I concur. This falls in line with her "character", so to speak. She's a formidable icon in WMMA and I can't say anything bad about her, though some try to make her the villain, I'm not seeing it. She's just a complete fighter who loves what she does and makes the sport better by setting a standard.
I'm pretty sure everyone is slowing down physically at 35. Most women in sports where speed is important peak before they're 30.
It's probably not going to katter against good stylistic match ups for her like grasso and fiorot, though.
meanwhile, Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce

Jamaican sprinter setting new records, fastest woman in the world rn,
36 years old, and also recently had a kid.
Mind over matter all day, I say.
edit: In addition, I do believe some sports have an age cap/limit, but contrary to popular belief, many DON'T. It's just unfeasable for most to put in enough work to get to where they want to be, and I think thats completely rational for most people, actually, making it past a certain age... it's definitely irrational.
Anyway,
if there's anything that's confirmed to have an age gap it's gymnastics.
So i'd say speed isn't the factor that lessens with age but... strength and flexibility instead.
