Ok looking into one of these for August. Both seem good. Costa Rica is apparently more touristy now and Nicaragua is supposed to be what Costa Rica was before it became all touristy. Anyone been to either? Any advice on places to stay or just general advice? Which is better. I've googled a bunch of info but just wanted to get some info from people on here.

Haven't been to either, but isn't Nicaragua in the midst of like civil war or some such? Or is that over now? I just remember like 12 years ago my then girlfriend's family went on a holiday to Honduras and I kept forgetting where they were going and saying Nicaragua and her step-dad would say that they were not going to Nicaragua because they didn't have a death wish or something.

That has stuck with me all these years, so I just presume it's not safe.

Def Costa Rica. Nic is in a big civil war type thing right now and it would be a good idea to not go there anytime soon lol. Check the news, buns.

Spent my honeymoon in Costa Rica so I would choose that. Stayed at a place called Vista de Olas in Mal Pais if you want to look it up. A nice place with a small town really close, a lot of different activities. And the owners are cool.
Here is a photo of the view.

LOL, not since Reagan was in office.

I hear the prostitutes are dynamite in Costa Rica.

Taking me Fiance so unfortunately this one be happening. Ok looks like Costa Rica it is I'm not trying to die.

if she truly Loves you, she would just want you to be happy.

It depends what you're looking for. Costa Rica is much more touristy and Americanized, but plenty of travelers prefer the comfort of a place like that. You can go there and get a taste of central America without actually roughing it. It's easier to arrange activities and communicate, and there will be more options. Overall, Costa Rica may be safer Id bet you're more likely to get pickpocketed or overcharged there as they are used to running scams on tourists.

Nicaragua is much less tainted by foreigners, and much cheaper. I was there earlier this year and had zero problems with crime, sketchy people, etc. The people are very poor, but very honest and hardworking. There are still baller resorts like Morgan's Rock and others if you're after a luxury vacay but still have the opportunity to go off the beaten path and see a country we haven't drastically changed.

Never been to either place. I've been to DR though and I'm in Cancun right now. The water is a lot better over here in Cancun and this is so far the best resort I've been to. Really good price for what it is too.

I went backpacking through Costa Rica and Panama not too long ago.

Costa Rica was great. La Fortuna, around Arenal.

I hiked and swam in Chato Volcano there. Also did some amazing hot springs.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca was also beautiful, saw some great wildlife (howler monkeys and sloths) and some black sand beaches. The culture there was great as well.

Also did some white water river rafting.

Basically, research cool shit to do before going and do that instead of resorts.

Also, I heavily recommend Bocas Del Toro in Panama. Friggin paradise and some cool little bars and restaurants as well.

That used to be my go two area when I traveled there, but it has become so busy with the huge increase in tourism its not the same place it was ten years ago.

I'm trying to go to Costa Rica and do some iboga. So you should go do that and tell me your experience.

Very nice. I've been looking up places now. Headed to Jaco beach.

Won't be able to do to much but I was going more to just get out of the US and be by the beach. Jaco doesn't seem to be one of the beaches but I'm 100% sure it's better than Galveston.

haven't been to nicaragua.. but i highly recommend costa rica.. i backpacked across the country for a couple weeks and it was pretty damn awesome.. ziplining the cloud forest.. check out arenal... just gtfo out of the san jose asap
