So, it's obvious to fight fans that Wilder is clearly past it (shot IMO) but is still dangerous in theory because of his power. Of course Wilder disagrees that he's past it. Only he went a step further. About a week ago he said that he was still in his prime. It defies logic. Now Roy has come out and more or less co-signed it. I'm at a loss for words here.
“He knows Deontay’s a great puncher, but he [also] knows Deontay’s starting to fall off a little bit. When you think about the past in boxing, the past was built mostly on black fighters – great, great fighters who were black.
“How many great black fighters did Floyd Mayweather fight in their prime? None. Usyk wants to be a guy that fought everybody that he could, because you want every name you can get on your record.
“And the heavyweight division is different, because George Foreman was the champion at 44 years old. When you can punch, you can land that thing any time.”
Roy Jones Jr delivers warning to Usyk on facing Deontay Wilder next
I'm not sure he's really still got his power, even if he did you may need a bit more going for you against Usyk to state the obvious.
TBH I'm not sure what he's on about re mentioning black fighters, sure there's heaps of great ones currently and in history but don't know the relevance?
