Rumored Usyk vs Wilder - IVB

So, it's obvious to fight fans that Wilder is clearly past it (shot IMO) but is still dangerous in theory because of his power. Of course Wilder disagrees that he's past it. Only he went a step further. About a week ago he said that he was still in his prime. It defies logic. Now Roy has come out and more or less co-signed it. I'm at a loss for words here. 😂

“He knows Deontay’s a great puncher, but he [also] knows Deontay’s starting to fall off a little bit. When you think about the past in boxing, the past was built mostly on black fighters – great, great fighters who were black.

“How many great black fighters did Floyd Mayweather fight in their prime? None. Usyk wants to be a guy that fought everybody that he could, because you want every name you can get on your record.

“And the heavyweight division is different, because George Foreman was the champion at 44 years old. When you can punch, you can land that thing any time.”

Roy Jones Jr delivers warning to Usyk on facing Deontay Wilder next

I'm not sure he's really still got his power, even if he did you may need a bit more going for you against Usyk to state the obvious.

TBH I'm not sure what he's on about re mentioning black fighters, sure there's heaps of great ones currently and in history but don't know the relevance?

That's why I said "in theory" Wilder is still dangerous because, as I said recently, his power hasn't come through for him in a while. Yeah, you're going to need more than power to beat Usyk. He's already beaten some of the most dangerous guys in the sport as an amateur and in the pro ranks at both cruiser & heavyweight. Lightning would have to strike for Wilder to KO him. His puncher's chance is a remote one at best but sure it's possible.

I think Roy is just taking shots at Floyd. They've had a beef for months now. That's all I took from it.

Yeah I don't know about this one. Guess we'll see.

Maybe you'll start to come around. Your boy is one of the ATGs, clearly the best fighter on the planet...and a joke of a champion. You've always made excuses, what is your excuse for this fight?

Guy has spent a 7-year HW career fighting 5 total opponents, 3 of them legit, and then caps it off by fighting a washed up 40-year-old bum who could never box properly in the first place.

That is an insanely thin record to compile in 7 years.

I hope Wilder flatlines him in a hilarious backfire, but of course that won't happen.

Hmm. Reportedly they're going to give away most of the tickets in order to try and break the world record for attendance at a boxing event. Currently, it's around 135k which was set a long time ago by Tony Zale vs Billy Pryor. They're looking to do around 150k in San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza. It's an ambitious goal and all but as a foreigner from the East Usyk isn't that well-known here in the States and interest in Wilder has declined a lot over the last few years. If this really is their plan then I think that they're going about it backwards.

Get a life, loser.

@Dr Fong Show me one post in this thread where I've defended this fight. I'm against it. In fact, I called it a gross mismatch. Previously I called for Usyk to be stripped of his WBO title after he appeared to be faking an injury to get an extension on his mandatory fight with Parker. I wanted him to fight Wardley or Kabayel next. Lastly, I've never rated Usyk as a Top 10 ATG at heavyweight because his body of work is too thin. He's Top 20 at best. Maybe learn to read?

I never said you defended this fight and didn't seriously expect you to. I am just pointing out that my hating on Usyk's HW run is being vindicated.

The Dubois rematch sucked. And this fight sucks much harder.

Great fighter. Shit champion.

The Dubois rematch only happened because there were people that actually thought the low blow he landed should've been ruled legal. It was unfinished business. You're hating on a guy that actually bothered to fully unify the division. What about all of the other heavies that never even attempted it over the last 20+ years? That's who you should be criticizing (with the exception of the Klitschkos).

It's weird that you pretend as if I'm merely an Usyk fanboy, and love everything that he does, while conveniently ignoring the fact that I've also been very critical of him in the last several months. To him this fight makes sense but nobody was asking for it.
