If he gets past yair tomorrow, I think he beats topuria pretty easily and I have no idea who would be after that. Time isn't on volk's side, though, so I'm not sure if he can rival aldo's numbers at FW. A big win at LW will do a lot for volk's overall legacy, though.

I was sitting here trying to rationalize who would be next after Topuria, and looking at the rankings, and understanding one of the UFC's current angles, and smmfh...would you believe Ortega, if he wins one fight? I know it isn't justified, and us here who care about some integrity in this sport would wtf? that idea in a second, but there is little integrity at UFC HQ and they wanna break into Mexico in a big way, and I wouldn't be surprised.

I also looked at the rankings and didn't really see a logical next guy, and also just smoked some hash, so this is likely just paranoia. Can't shake flashbacks of fighters getting title shots off a loss. Holly got one off two losses, who knows?

Yeah, defeating the likes of Hominick, Gamburyan and Florian not really that impressive. Lamas is an alright win. Overall, Volk's resume is superior and has a win over Aldo, too. Beating Holloway 3 times alone is an incredible accomplishment and aging incredibly well, considering Max can beat everyone but Volk. Aldo also lost to every FW champion. Numbers are important but so are losses.

Everyone ages the same, accumulates fight mileage and training mileage exactly the same, and all sports are created equally. Noted. I'm glad you knowing Adesanya having 100 fights is fact checking.

You clearly don't agree with me and you don't have to, but this is far from a compelling argument. I've stated my opinion on this matter in this thread, if people don't agree with me, so be it. Everyone is entitled to their perspective. I highly doubt I'm changing anyone's mind.

It’s debatable. Prime Frankie Edgar (twice) and Prime Chad Mendes are better than anyone Volkanovski has beat short of Max Holloway (and even that is debatable because there weren’t any wrestlers or complete grapplers like that during Holloways reign). Aldo’s definitely not going to be the same after three KO losses and ten years of competition.
Also talking about Kenny Florian like he’s not one of the higher wins on any of their resumes is the most recency bias thing ever. I’m not saying you haven’t, but it makes me think you haven’t been watching MMA for very long.

I love Max, I really do. One of my favorite active fighters in and outside of the cage.

That being said, I have it Aldo > Volk > Max. I just can't get past the three heads-up wins that Volk has over Max (and yes he has one over Aldo, but I still value Aldo's run and overall career slightly above Volk's). But it gets wonky when you consider that Aldo's career is over, and Volk's has at least a couple more years left to let it all play out. Volk COULD surpass Aldo, but all we can do is wait and see.

He was road-worn by that time, yes he was technically 32, but more like 38/39 in fight years just based on wear and tear.
