Usman’s title reign in retrospect

He was/is one of the best ever. He had to go 9-0 before he even got a title shot. And after he won the title he smashed everyone not named Leon for 3 years. Anyone trying to discredit Usman is a moron.
Everyone?

It was a great run, the only questionable oponent was Mas 2, he was clearly the best WW during his reign which also didn't have any controversy, he also won 15 fights in a row in the UFC which is fucking insane specially nowdays.

How long until we all admit Woodley had the better reign?
<30>
Soon people will realize at least woodley has the one good win against till which was a finish. It’s the wonderboy and Maia fights that make woodley a reign look bad

I mean he also beat Woodley to get the belt. Plus 2-time title challenger Maia & former UFC champion RDA before that.

It was a pretty great run but all the GOAT talk was silly then & even sillier in hindsight. Definitely a top 5 UFC WW of all-time though, maybe top 3.

40 year old maia who took the fight on 12 days notice simply because the ufc promised him a better contract if he took it, and lifelong LW rda.

Burns and Colby are his only noteworthy wins and he he was in danger of losing all three fights. Really not a historic reign by any means.

he achieved the highest possible accolade in MMA being the top of the P4P list in the UFC. He's in rare company with jones, dc, khabib, volk, aldo, and DJ.

Was usman title reign a bit mediocre? The UFC and some of u shills were pushing usman as a p4p #1 and WW goat.

yet his reign was beating woodley for the title, then fighting

colby 2x
Masvidal 2x
Leon 2x
Burns

losing 2 of those fights.

so he beat 3 guys in his reign, colby, masvidal, burns. Colby being the toughest.

i think gsp runs through all of usmans opponents.
This is the weakest that the ww division has ever been.

NATE Diaz was ranked #7 at ww at one point. Remember when Till was ranked in the top 5? Cowboy somehow competing at ww?

The statue of Tyron Woodley was champ defending against the ghost of Robbie Lawler...

Yes it was. When you get stuck in rematches it really hurts your claim for being a top fighter.

Especially Usman's rematches, Colby and Masvidal, who are not know for their stellar career as well.

Prime GSP tapped to strikes at the hands of a midget.

That’s like if Usman got TKOd and tapped the moment things turned bad against Ryan Hall. Imagine that

Lol I love this thread.
It proves 2 things from both sides.

Colby haters seeing Usman fans praise how Great Colby is.

GSP fans can cement the fact that Usman was more overrated than he was made out to be.

My honest take is Usman was a dirty fake fouling champ. He was good but not great.

Usman got headkicked into the shadow realm for one of the most infamous knockouts of all time. Doesn't negate how great his title reign was.

Gretzky, Jordan, Fedor lost to people far inferior to them, doesn't mean shit.

Fun fact: Leon Edwards was top-5 in the division for almost the entirety of Usman having the belt.

Dana and the rest of the goofs yapped non-stop about Usman "clearing the division twice" when he never did in fact rematch Leon since their fight very long ago in 2014. They did fight and Leon beat him twice - so Kamaru never did "clear the divisoin" even once.

Props to Usman for a dominant run - he beat a lot of the best guys, but claiming WW GOAT was pure lunacy.

but yeah, imo beating colby covington twice rates pretty highly.
Colby also had a pretty good run to his 1st shot. RDA and Maia were quality wins.

Problem is he hasn't fought any real contender since. Now his whole thing is 2 losses against the guy who used to be champ. That doesn't convince me.

Indeed Leon is a clown despite having a win streak of 10 fights before their last fight, totally the same thing than being destroyed by a former LW in the first round with a win streak of 1 fight...

Leon would beat GSP : competition is much tougher nowadays.

Leon is a great WW that’s riding a 10 fight win streak, there’s no shame in losing to him. Especially not when at 35 years old with bad knees.

The comparison used by fanboys is always GSP at his absolute peak with <insert fighter> at their worst. GSP is the more accomplished champion, but he isn’t the better fighter. Prime vs Prime, Usman destroys GSP

I'm not sure GSP runs through Colby, I think that is a lot closer fight than people think. But I have GSP's legacy way ahead of Usman's.
