Only 30% of the Russian Army is made up of full time, professional soldiers. The rest are Conscripts who only serve for one year.

In a fight between equal numbers, the elite units of the UK, America, France and Germany would absolutely rape their opposite numbers in the Russian Spetznaz. The Beslan School Siege/Massacre is widely regarded as the perfect example of how not to attempt to rescue hostages.

In a ground war, what much more tactically advanced technology does the US have that is such a game changer, it will guarantee us victory? Do our tanks, which I hear we are getting rid of, have covenant cloaking devices? Do our helicopters?

As for "cyber hacking", yeh sure we can hack each others emails during peacetime, when the only topics the top brass are discussing is what they are doing this weekend, or which drill and who will be running them today, (while practicing secrecy for the sake of it) but I imagine during wartime, the lines of communication will be more secure and not via the world wide web.

in fact it is a pretty big political issue in russia right now, where families are concerned about their sons getting conscripted and getting raped and beaten and possibly killed in the army

not much actual military training going on, they can barely provide soldiers with enough food to eat not mentioning equipment

Obama will do nothing. Usually when the superpowers get involved in armed conflict with a non superpower they will not see any direct intervention by other superpowers.

And by superpowers I mean countries that have nuclear weapons.

US goes to Iraq and Afghanistan, Russia and China do nothing.

US goes into libya using air power, Russia and China do nothing.

Russia goes into Georgia, US, UK, France, China do nothing.

Russia goes into Afghanistan, US indirectly intervenes.

China goes into Vietnam, US, Russia do not get involved directly.

For the people that haven't paid attention to world events for the past 70 years, superpowers do not fight each other anymore, so a US-Russia conflict is extremely unlikely.

What superpowers now do (and the US being the biggest of all is, naturally, the biggest violator) is pick on pathetically weak and defenseless adversaries and pummel them into submission.

Russia's hit list: Eastern Europe, Afghanistan.

USA's hit list: Korea, Vietnam, Granada, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iraq again, etc., etc., etc.

Now way these two are clashing against each other. Too costly. Picking on opponents that can't fight back in any significant way is the way it's been done for almost a century now.
