I said it several times in the other thread:

The Democrats always blink first in shutdown negotiations. So much of their voting constituency relies on the free flow of government largesse, that they can't allow the flow of money to slow down for very long.

Also, as everyone can see, the dire predictions never came true. We had slightly less government over the weekend, and the world didn't come to an end.

It's so funny hearing that things will fall apart without the welfare-state workers.

It's just so illogical given the makeup of government employees. Of course there are a few fields where it's an exception, but it's clear that government is where the incompetent go to seek employment. It's largely made up of people that aren't skilled or smart enough for a job where they don't hire strictly based on quotas. These people would be forced to attempt to get a real private sector job if the government didnt whip out its tit constantly.

Go to the DMV, they hire people too mentally slow to be a cashier at Wal-Mart.

DACA + border security + immigration reform sounds like a good deal to any reasonable person.

You are forgetting that 5 republicans voted against it due to said promise.

The whole shutdown was predicated on there being a clean DACA vote as promised when the tax bill passed.

There's going to be a clean DACA vote (at least for now, until the Republicans renege). What more were you expecting from the minority party?

For some of the very reasons to which you allude - decent pay, good benefits, pensions, job security - a shit ton of people attempt to work for the government.

This very large supply relative to the limited demand means that public employers like the DMV and the post office are able to hire extremely high caliber applicants.

It is a thousand times easier to get a job in retail than to get hired in almost any sphere of the public sector. You have no idea WTF you're talking about.

I wonder if the Democrats understand that they just fucked themselves out of any chance of winning any kind of majority in the upcoming midterm election?

The Democrats acted like whiny children willing to take their ball and go home. They did this to serve the interests of illegal immigrants over American citizens. When they caved, it projected a position of weakness to the rest of the American people. They also can't go back to any of their constituents with any of this "#resistance" nonsense, due to the fact that they've already shown themselves to be willing to work with President Trump.

The Democrats just provided Republican campaign ads for the next 6 years.
