US Government Shutdown

It takes sixty votes. There are not sixty republicans. Own the shutdown you chose crazy Democrats.
And one of the reasons these votes keep coming up, resulting in a potential shutdown every time, is because Republicans don't want to vote on a long-term bill. The House bill that got passed earlier this week would have required another vote on Feb. 16th. Both parties need to get this over with.

Typical unrational liberal attempting to distort reality.

45 Republicans voted yes. 5 voted no.

5 Democrats voted yes. 44 voted no.

Own the Schumer shutdown crazy Democrats.

Why should Democrats support it if leading Republicans don't?

Why should they cover up for your incompetence?

DACA is a huge issue that both Republicans and Democrats want to address. Both sides are on record saying so.

I think that this is actually good politics by the Dems not to vote for it. What incentive do the Dems have to vote for it? It never, electorally speaking, hurt the Republicans when the shut down happened in 2013 and the Dems might be able to extract concessions this time (unlike the GOP did in 2013).

I don’t disagree at all in terms of politics. Who knows how this will turn out politically.

Democrats should applaud this shutdown and see if it helps or hurts them at the polls.

I thought Trump was the best negotiator. He could not persuade a couple Dems?

I wonder how long it would take not paying the military for mass desertions to happen. It's a scary thought.

Incidentally, are there other professions where people try to avoid doing their job in order to keep it?

That's a hilarious response that just reeks of biased desperation.

The truth is that the GOP has enough control to pass this on their own, without needing any Democrats. The Democrats should of course try to exert influence and get something they want out of negotiations, but they aren't even in a position where they should be able to get anything so the loop could be closed before they even got their say. It's just that Trump doesn't seem capable of getting his own party to support him.

Any rational person would look for a leader to get support from his own before starting to look to the opposing party to support him. We all know that both sides do their best to vote against the other. You probably just don't want to do that since that would make you have to say something negative about Trump and the Republicans.

It's on the Republicans and Trump. They canceled DACA and Dreamer protections. They let CHIP expire intentionally, so they could use it politically with the budget. This is 100% on Trump, and the Republican party.
Not even close

Non citizen protections hahahahahahaha

The majority of this thread is astonishingly bad at elementary math

Must be common core or something

Also:

Not an argument.

reminds me of the great shutdown of Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory back in the 80's.

Do the Republicans need just 51 votes to pass a budget? I thought it was 60.

This thread is about the shutdown, and the budget. Whether or not you think Dreamers deserve protection is irrelevant to this conversation.

U cant be serious haha

Im gonna laugh when the social welfare programs cut their workers, legitamately hurting the voting base that wants this

Im "essential personnel" so i still work on Monday....sucks for any Federal employee that leans left hahaha

Like other shutdowns, a bill was introduced that would continue all pay and benefits for the military. Mitch opposed it.

Do you understand how dumb it sounds when you’re trying to convince people that it’s Trumps fault that 44 Democrats decides to vote against a budget they don’t even disagree with.
