Media Urijah Faber and co demonstrate the grounded opponent rule change

YES! Finally north-south elbows are legal!

I remember the story that Rogan used to tell that it was only illegal because some commissioner watched block-breaking demonstrations and assumed it was overpowered

They should legalize late stoppages.

Or legalize it if both fighters agree to it beforehand.

Imagine two fighters that hate each other agree to it contractually beforehand to allow for a late stoppage regardless of who is on the receiving end of it.

It would definitely incentivize finishing the fight.
Wtf does that even mean, a late stoppage is if the ref doesn't stop the fight in time and the loser takes more damage than they need to. Fighters blasting an unconscious opponent with an additional punch before the ref jumps in is already legal.

Ok I'm ready to be proven wrong or right. 12-6 elbows are gonna be banned again. The gonna open up peoples faces bad and potentially blind someone. Every full mount will be finished by 12-6.

Also the new grounded rule is gonna get milked by someone causing a DQ.

Great..

So no more gaming the grounded fighter rule.

Yet in an instance like when Aljo was down. He had a knee on the mat. After being warned by ref Smith. Yan threw an illegal strike.

It’s a movement in the right direction, imo.

It's not the "right" rule, but at least they are making moves in the right direction.

We'll get some more asinine DQ's from fighters playing the game of dropping their knee/floating it and then hopefully in a few years we can make it so grounded is only back/butt touching the mat.

That would also mean fighters can upkick from guard like Anderson against Okami, with makes it a much more dangerous/dynamic position for the guy on bottom.

Much needed improvement. Helps put an end to guys playing pattycake with the floor to stay classed as grounded and not need to actually proactively defend themselves.

This is why Jones delayed the Stipe fight until November. He will try the elbows again.

My sympathy is for Matt.

Should've been a tko way before the illegal elbow but the ref wanted to see a deaf man get killed in the octagon.
Don't we all?
It would have been a first after all!
But the ref saved us from feeling bad afterwards.

Aljo still does the same shit on his knees though. This fixes the hand BS but not the problem of unified rules in general. Just legalize full Pride rules already. Or at least One rules

Ty for posting! Good video very important moment in mma history with the rules

Move on, buddeh..

That will probably never happen in the UFC of today. Knees are allowed in Colorado. But the UFC hasn’t availed themselves of that rule.

Surely you understand it all, right?

But it doesn't fix what you said Aljo did against Yan he was on his knees. The only time we saw people put a hand down was against the fence or trying to stand up so now people just won't do that or it's knee time. What Yan did is still illegal
