Even though I can see Yair's kicking game possibly overwhelming him, takedowns should allow him to neutralize that threat. Hard to see Volk getting submitted by him, too, given how he weathered Ortega's sub attempts.

Yair got wrestled by Max Holloway. Actually he ends up in bottom almost every fight and never gets out from under until the round ends.

Volk should be fine.

My thoughts too. His ground game's obviously improved after subbing Ortega and Emmett, but he can still get wrestlefucked like he always has.

Only question is Volk's chin after being hurt while moving up against Islam of all people. Against Charles, Dustin, Justin, Chandler, or Conor sure, but Islam? Yair hits hard and unexpectedly, wouldn't be that surprising to see him hurting Volk. Who's still a great striker too though.

But still, IMO like an 80/20 fight for Volk.

Not sure why someone is questioning distaste for Yair. He's generally unlikeable, albeit having an entertaining style. His run to the title has been interesting. The Emmett win was legit, but working backwards:
-Beats Ortega by shoulder injury in rd. 1
-Loss to Holloway
-Win over who da' fook (1-7-1NC in his last 9)
-Eye pokes who da' fook (NC)
-Win over KZ via 1/1,000,000,000 elbow at the last second in a fight he was losing
-TKO'd by Frankie
-6 straight wins (Applause, but UFC is a "what have you done for me lately" meritocracy.)

I was been watching Yair previous fights (Including that one with Max) Yair is a different kind of fighter than Volk has faced and will catch him with something weird and unorthodox....Yair will have reach advantage and those kicks to the head and body to a short Volk!!!...I see a 3rd round KO/TKO coming......and would not be surprised if Yair won a UD....I know I am going to get toasted for posting this but man I got a bad feeling about this fight for Volk.....Am I wrong?....am I crazy??? time will tell.

Well, usually fundamentals beats weird shit. And Volk is looking like a GOAT with no weaknesses these days. And watching him adjust mid-fight to Max (2) and Islam was damn impressive.

But for +350, you should take a shot. Why not?

Any logical person would have to give Yair a percentage chance to win. I'd say he has about a 20% chance. I don't see him stopping Volk with a flashy strike like he pulled on Zombie for example. It will take Yair pulling of a performance of a lifetime with a side of luck for him to win IMO.

It was interesting seeing Volk not dealing with 155lb division power as well, but who knows how huge 185lb+ Islam’s strikes are compared to skinny 145lb Yairs strikes.

Ortega tried to do that -- twice -- after catching Volk in his two signature chokes and wasn't able to finish either one. He's also a vastly more accredited submission specialist to Yair. And Volk's been putting in a lot of mat time for this one with Craig Jones after studying Yair's guard play.

Volkanovski will prove Yair is the Anthony Pettis 2nd. Too much flashy shit without real, organic, solid MMA aspects. At least he is way more humble than Pettis and don't deserve a beating like Pettis vs. Dos Anjos lol, that was a deserved massacre. But Volkanovski is way better, if he loses it's just father time. I really don't see it.

I don't think that's fair. If Yair wins, Yair wins fair and square. Chalking it up to "Volk just got old and went out of his prime" when he just went to war with Islam in a competitive five-round scrap would be a disservice to both men IMO.

Yeah but what about all the other guys who have had success taking Yair down and holding him down for minutes at a time while he was forced to play Jiu-Jitsu or throw strikes off his back? Holloway, Stephens, Emmett, Rosa, and Hooker all had some degree of success with wrestling him and none of those guys are renowned offensive wrestlers in MMA.

Agreed. Volk is so crafty and aware of the ebb and flow of a fight, I think it's inherently difficult to out-point him especially if you're not fundamentally sound. I think it would require a really weird situation like where Yair drops him early and Volk just never fully recovers but doesn't get TKO'd, either -- like TKZ against Ortega. Other than that, I think Yair's best wins are with a finish... probably KO/TKO. And for the record, I do think he has non-zero odds of achieving that. He's a fairly dangerous fight for Volk just due to his dynamism despite his readily exploitable flaws. Hard not to pick Volk to win of course -- potentially quite dominantly -- but I think Yair's fairly live for an upset all the same.
