Strangely, my gut discounted it as likely nothing so serious or deliberate based upon the tone of the reporting--it sounded to me like they had info they hadn't yet confirmed that indicated it wasn't. My logical brain thought it might be just because there was a kaboom.
Odd, I went the other way

If terrorism isn't a logical assumption, why did they close the other border crossings? Worried about a rash of freak accidents I guess. I reserved judgement in this one, but it is easy to understand why people lean in that direction. And it's not always hate driven (for some obviously).

We all know why Fox News was so eager to drum up the terrorist panic

How did they rule out a terrorist attack?

Unfortunately we've been conditioned to assume things like this are terror/hate related. It's almost a relief when it ends up being just a horrible accident.

The only bright side is at least no places of worship will be lit on fire for this.

My gut also thought terror, I was just waiting for more facts
You act like these things happen a lot in America. It’s the lowest death per capita event in all of America.

More people die to fireworks

Can you imagine the overreaction if you lived in a country facing real threats?

I mean, everyone has suspicions when these things happen. But seems like the choice is to jump on the political side you choose for these incidents and chalk it up to early inaccurate reporting later is becoming the norm.

Wait -- so just because it's a middle aged white guy in a Bentley they won't investigate if anything nefarious was involved? Why?

There's more to this story. You don't just randomly drive that fast into a border crossing area. Let's see a blood tox panel.

Who in the actual fuck is saying the won't investigate? Last I looked that border crossing was still closed because they were still investigating, and had been doing so since the incident. What a silly comment.

You answered your own question. The story died when they found out the person was white.

This thread would have been 30 pages if it was anyone else.

I'd prefer that it be treated as "possible terrorism" and thoroughly investigated, no matter who the person is.

Just because the driver is 'white' doesn't mean the act isn't driven by some ideology like, anti-government or even islamic extremism. The approach should be just to investigate and not conjecture.

That's not what I said and you probably know that or have terrible reading comprehension skills.

Are you mental? You literally said precisely that, to wit,
"Wait -- so just because it's a middle aged white guy in a Bentley they won't investigate if anything nefarious was involved? Why?

Put down the pipe, dope.

I meant to comment on this earlier. I most definitely odd, so no surprise there.

How did they rule out a terrorist attack?
I can suggest a plausible reason. They have video of the incident from multiple angles. If any of them permit a view of the license plate they could (relatively) quickly determine who the registered owner of the car is. I think it would be a similarly quick process to check things like social media and the person's home for signs of radicalization, and having found none, presume pending further information that it was not a terrorist attack.

If I had to guess at the cause of what happened I'd say either a medical crisis or a mental breakdown leading to a death wish, leaning toward the latter.
