Signings/Scouting Unsigned Heavyweights, v.4

Kelvin Tiller (7-1) fights Kevin Sears (6-2) at Heavyweight at Shamrock FC 282 this Saturday in Kansas City. Been almost 2 years since we've seen Tiller fight. He still has a lot of potential and is only 26. I think he's still better suited for 205 but he could win some fights at Heavyweight. Sears is on a 3 fight finish/win streak but Tiller is probably his toughest opponent to date but he definitely will have a size advantage.

on the erokhin loss it was OW, opponent weighed in at 292, for whatever that means

this weekend's fights
Jared Henderson 3-2 vs. Adam Dyczka 3-0
Paul Buentello 35-17 vs. Tim Hague 21-13
Juan Torres 5-8 vs. Timothy Williams 0-14 (not a typo, also last fought in 2007)
Rashad Coulter 7-1 vs. Joel Moore 3-0
Kelvin Tiller 7-1 vs. Kevin Sears 6-2

Kyle Noblitt moves to 5-0 with his win over Steve Rustemeyer at Fight Hard MMA. In the co-main event, Mike Wright (1-1) beats Max Mcneely by Unanimous Decision. I believe this is a tournament for their HW title so Noblitt will face Wright in the finals. Galen Livingston also had a successful pro debut, finishing Chris Gideon in under 2 minutes.

Buentello vs Hague never happened .....mike Kyle ko of Danny Charles replaced the fight at acb California

I hope Pesta isn't going to be cut after last nights loss. He's been matched rough for such a young HW prospect. Meanwhile
Luis Henrique is on a 2 fight winning streak because he's been matched with Smolyakov and Columbo back to back... Pesta would smoke those guys, and I would make him a favorite against a bunch of other heavyweights. Given the nature of the loss they should reschedule the Grabowski fight and build this kid a little. Still a promising prospect. just been matched tough since coming to the UFC.

James Mulheron to rematch Ruben Wolf, which is Mulheron's only defeat so far. I believe it's in February in m4tc.

Good fight. I think Mulheron will likely take it. I'm admittedly not all that high on Mulheron, but Wolf is around the level he's used to beating. The last fight with Wolf was probably more of an exception rather than a rule. Maybe after that roll with a HW title fight against Tom Aspinall in BAMMA.

Noblitt is tricky, but I can see him getting a call at LHW, but not HW. He can definitely hang with regional level heavies, but he'll need to go down to LHW if he's going to compete in the UFC/Bellator/WSoF.

Adam Dyzcka moves to 4-0, wins via KO.

Being a fellow Canadian, I have to support Dyzcka, but he needs to start going through a higher intensity camp and pair with a S&C coach or he's going to be thrown around by an athletic guy on the regional scene.

I have a soft spot for Pesta, he's a good kid. I say give him Chase Sherman in a loser goes home fight. Both guys are likely going to be on the chopping block, but at least give one of those younger fighters another shot. Smolyakov I'm on the other end, Smolyakov is 32 and has looked absolutely ineffective against low-mid level guys, not much point in keeping him on the roster.

Good

I genuinely am flabbergasted at how shockingly bad Smolyakov was. Definitely getting cut. All 3 of them probably will be, but I wouldn't be totally against Pesta vs. Grabowski and Sherman vs. say, Godbeer or Danho - loser goes home fights.

The "Mama's Boy" Kelvin Tiller made Mama proud by putting his striking on showcase in the main event. Tiller defended takedown attempts by Sears and let go his heavy hands to put a quick end to evening's finale.

"I picked my shots, I waited," Tiller said. "I knew I was better before I even got in there. I'm just good, I'm good at what I do. There was no game plan, I got the best coaches in the world. We just work everything, we didn't have no game plan. My coach said 'go out there and hit him, and look good doing it,' and that's exactly what I did."

The colorful and confident Tiller talked after the fight saying he was comfortable at heavyweight. Settling in a heavyweight means focusing on strength.

"I got Thomas Tatcher, he's my strength and conditioning coach," Tiller said. "He had me doing some crazy shit. We only had about a month together, three solid weeks together. Back to work on Monday, Tuesday we're right back to it. Strength and conditioning, something I've never, ever done for a fight before. We're going to be ready."

Tiller fighting out of the Lawrence Fight Club in Lawrence, KS improves to 8-1 in his first trip to the cage since March of 2015.

"I've been in the fight game, thirty, thirty-five years, and I don't know if I've ever seen someone crack like Kelvin Tiller," Finney said. "When he cracks someone with body shots, kicks, there's a difference. He's probably the most talented un-signed guy out there. I hope he can put on some muscle and make a run at this."

Tiller wins with a TKO at 2:17 in the 1st round. Seems like he may be planning to stay at Heavyweight.

Godbeer, Danho and Simolyakov are all awful and have absolutely nothing to offer the division. I agree with them being used as padding for guys like Pesta and Sherman who despite their lack of success in the UFC still have some upside.

I don't know about Sherman tbh. Nothing I've seen of him - inside and outside of the UFC - leads me to belive that he could actually be somewhat successful in the HW division.

He rarely throws combinations and his defense is garbage.

Yeah I don't really disagree, but I think he has a little bit more upside than those other guys. Mostly talking about Pesta here.

Given Tiller's struggles with making lower weights in the past, being a smaller HW with a bit of speed might be a good move for him/ Definitely one to keep a close eye on, going forward.

I have to agree mate, FBTS summed it up - Pesta does have some upside, SOME. I'm not overly sold on him, his striking is non existent and his A-game isn't exactly up to standard either. But he isn't terrible, whereas Sherman for me is just another brawler who's garnered a record TKO'ing dudes in Mississippi and Florida.
