Signings/Scouting Unsigned Heavyweights, v.4

Acording to interview with Volkov, UFC offered fight with him to other fighters including Tybura but only Johnson agreed to fight him. He also said that Kenny Johnson from Black House MMA gonna join him in this camp to help with Volkov's wrestling.

Volkov is a super tough guy to fight without a big name, I can imagine fighters don't want to risk the loss.

Tim Johnson is a good wrestler though and I can see why he took the fight, glad that Volkov is taking this seriously and is getting a high level wrestling coach. Really looking forward to that fight.

Tybura didn't want Volkov but accepted Black Beast?
I don't know, it's hard to believe

If I'm not mistaken Khabib said that UFC offered him a fight against GSP and he also said that they offered him a fight against Nate more than once. And Dana said that both of this Khabib's statements is not true.

Yosef Ali Mohammad vs Fernando Rodrigues 2 got uploaded. Fight brings a tear to my eye... why, Yosef, why?

Tuivasa just defeated McSweeney. McSweeney didn't walk out for the 2nd round because he can't see out of his left eye.

Not a particularly great performance from Tai IMO. He's still got a long way to go before he's ready to take on some of the better HW's IMO. Tai also looked very tired after 1 round of fighting.

@Paul L, do you believe Tuivasa has the potential to be a top level guy in the UFC? He's big, strong and has a lot of power but he's still extremely sloppy in his technique and fight IQ IMO. Can he make it to the top or do you think he'll be an entertaining brawler, kinda like Derrick Lewis?

That was a good win for Tuivasa even if it wasn't a great performance - McSweeney will give any of the HW prospects a good test.

At EFCA Van Zyl won by 4th rd TKO & Mostert by 1st rd TKO.

I think likely he'll be in the Derrick Lewis category, I've heard he hits harder than Mark Hunt from guys who have trained with both, but he still has a lot of work to do on his technique and cardio. If McSweeney decided to grit the rest of that fight out, he probably could have outlasted Tuivasa, but McSweeney is fighting prospects for a reason at this point in his career.

I really want to add both Van Zyl and Mostert as featured profiles on the main post, but I'm so gun-shy with South African heavyweights after how they perform fighting in larger promotions. I'll wait to see Mostert fight Van Zyl next year and see how it goes. I think Mike Vermeulen may be a good next fight for Mostert.
