Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Three

Awesome! They just need to sign Blaydes, Aliakbari, and Pavlovich and the UFC will have an all star roster.

I heard he will be fighting Walt Harris as his first fight in. That could be really bad for him, or really good, depending on which Walt Harris shows up.

Any word on who Asker is facing at Zagreb? Was hoping the Pavlovich rumors were true

Haven't heard anything yet, but Asker is EXACTLY the kind of fighter that would showcase Pavlovich's skills. So I hope it's true. Asker has a good chin, solid cardio, and prefers to strike, so we'd likely see some amazing punching flurries as Pavlovich lays an epic beat down. It'd be fight of the night material.

An article on Rico's MMA pursuits. It seems like it's still a "in the future" kind of thing for him. I get the idea that MMA will be a backup in case Glory can't get him the paycheck he wants in the future, or if kickboxing in general isn't providing him enough revenue.
Hopefully he continues to train some MMA even if he still competes in kickboxing. I mean he would be a great MMA prospect even in his early 30s if he trained with AKA for example during his offseasons for years inbetween.

Rico is 26 he could take 4 years getting to the UFC and still be young for the division.
As long as he keeps taking MMA fights winning and improving his ground game I am happy and confident he is going to be a force in the Heavyweight division.

What happened to Ryan Martinez?
The guy needed to work on his cardio and to loose 30 pounds, but he had a solid wrestling background and legit power, Jeff Mayweather said that he had morre power than Roy Nelson, he could have been a decent heavyweight.
Apparently he started to train again after recoveringg from his injury, but that video was posted nearly 8 months ago.

I actually liked Martinez, he had a lot of natural talent. Great wrestler, showed some good hands at times, but still needed standup work for the top end of the division. But yeah, I agree his major issue was fitness/cardio. He trained with King Mo, Roy Nelson, Walt Harris, and a few others at Mayweathers gym, although I'm not sure if he's back there or back home in Colorado now.

I'd like to see him get down to about 230 and make a return. At 28 years old he still has lots of time in the division.

I was actually on that dudes fight finder page before after reading about Mark Ellis. Coincidence to see his name on here, I wonder if he is still with Bellator.

Yeah, 230-235 would be great for him, the fitness/cardio problems should be fixable, he has the potential to be a good, solid heavyweight.

I agree about Martinez, he's a solid enough HW. And at 28, he can still be considered a prospect. If he can get fit, shed maybe 20lbs or so and improve his cardio, then pick up say 3-4 wins, I could see the UFC giving him a shot on the prelims.

Former NFL defensive end Ronnell Lewis notches his third amateur win by verbal submission due to strikes in the first round.

I don't follow NFL stuff, but if someone who is more knowledgeable about his draft stats on his Wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnell_Lewis could chime in and maybe let me know if they are considered good, that'd be awesome.

Some international fights coming up...

James Mulheron vs Zoumana Cisse at Made 4 the Cage 20 on March 6th.
Brendon Groenewald vs Danie Van Heerden for the EFC Worldwide Heavyweight Title on April 23rd.

I'm digging both of those matches.
Also, Luc Ngeleka (4-1) vs Miika Mehmet (3-4) at Superior Challenge 13 April 9th.

Any news on Orlando Sanchez in MMA? I know after winning ADCC he said the UFC is his next goal. There were rumours he would be on Rizin too but that obviously didn't happen. He always seems to be training at Kings on social media but no word on any fights for him. He just turned 34, so he's not got much time to make a run.

Yosef Ali Mohammad is still the Superior Challenge HW champ afaik, so I I guess the winner there could potentially face him later. A matchup I would is Yosef vs Oli Thompson, give him a chance to win back the momentum he lost.

Maybe this will be interesting news for some guys. Goltsov won Russian Combat Sambo Championship, Sidelnikov took 2nd place.
